Australian players who have made it big in the Premier League

Ever since the 1980s when Craig Johnson made a name for himself with Liverpool there have been Australian players in English football, but it is during the Premier League era that players from Australia have really begun to emerge. This in turn has led to an increase in enthusiasm for the English game amongst Australian sports fans, as well as a rise in betting at online casino and sports betting sites in places like www.onlinecasinoaustralia.com.au. These are some of the most famous Australian players to have starred in the Premier League.

Tim Cahill
When it comes to thinking of Australian Premier League players, Everton’s Tim Cahill will be the first name on the lips of many. Since arriving at the Goodison Park side in 2004, he has become a talismanic figure both for them and for his country. Cahill’s popularity with the Everton fans is such that, during the 2006 World Cup, many of them travelled to support Australia instead of England!

Brett Emerton
Until he left before the start of the 2011/12 season, Brett Emerton had marked himself out as a consistent and underrated performer for Blackburn Rovers during a decade long spell there. Indeed his was one of the key summer departures that many have subsequently blamed for Rovers’ slide towards eventual relegation at the end of last season.

Mark Bosnich
Although this goalkeeper – who played for a number of English teams, including Aston Villa and Chelsea, may be more remembered now for various non-footballing issues, he nonetheless proved to be a consistent performer on the field. If only he had been able to carry that discipline into his off-field life.

Harry Kewell
During his time in the English Premier League, Kewell played for two of the most famous English clubs – Leeds and Liverpool – but it is with the former of these that he really made his reputation in English football. Part of the hugely promising young Leeds team of the early noughties, he also played a significant role in the Australian national team.
