Am I dreaming? Beckford hatrick? 5-1? Unbelievable.

Okay, you guys are going to murder me for this, but what is the use of these brilliant one-off performances when we go and lose 1-0 to a stolen goal on Saturday. Following the Whites is an epic journey, thats for sure.

That moan aside. Fair play, Macca clearly kicked some backide after Saturday. Long may it continue.

So what did we have tonight that we didnt on saturday?

simple:

A bit of luck, a bit of belief and a striker in form again...

bouncebackability - a great response to the disappointment of the weekend.

A good performance tonight, great comeback after Saturday. Christie looked ok, interesting to see how that develops. Beckford, - really sharp, clinical and enthusiastic. On the downside, - Northampton were poor, - lots of injuries but they still scored 2 goals from corners. Still more work to do with the defence but we already know that. But...we'd all settle for 5-2 every time.

Hold on there Sheepy. A good result certainly. And it does seem petty to moan after a better performance. But two more goals conceeded to a poor Northants team. Again and again we have spoken about the defence. It is having a shocker. But when is it going to improve?

It some ways this game sums up the team that we are. Capable of dismantling teams when on the attack. But always vulnerable defensively.

This performance in some ways asks more questions than it answers in my opinion.

yeah, slack marking again so plenty to improve on, thing is, when your 3-0 up and 5-1 its a bit more forgiveable to let your foot off the gas when its say 0-0 or 1-0 etc...

I'm starting to think maybe that might be the essence of the season. Obviously leaking in so many goals so often isn't normal for a team of our calibre and aspirations, but if it's that bad a problem maybe we should focus on getting a goals to chances ration to run away with a game before the other team has a chance to get in it. As Sheepy says, when you're 2, 3 or 4 goals up it's not as big a shock letting in a silly goal as it is when it's still 0-0 and time is running out.

I too was glad to see a come back last night, almost went and camped out at Sixfields for the second half. After making the journey to ER Saturday only to see them lose for the first time in 4 years (in the league that is!). The stick I got Monday for the defeat was almost unbearable. They just seemed to play like it was a Sunday kick around. The first five minutes showed passion, then once the goal appeared they seemed to sit back. Passing back to Casper and Michalik seemed to be the order instead of pushing forward. And what was Casper doing keep throwing out instead of kicking it hard back into the area for a big push. Off the soap box now, five goals is a great achievement, just what we need in the league - bring on Hartlepool and lets see Jeff Stelling squirm!!
