The English Godfather by Graham Nown. Took me a while to get my hands on a copy but worth the wait. All about a fella called Owen (Owney) Madden who ran with the old famous names of the prohibition era and lived to a good old age without a 9mm cutting it short.

Good of you to post that Mr R, thanks. Who knows, those autographs might one day be worth as much as the paper they're scrawled on

Just re-read The Deceivers by Geoffery Richardson. Interesting angle on who was responsible for the deaths of the princes in the Tower.

Just finished Bill Brysons 'A walk in the Woods' - very good and several laugh out loud moments.
Lee - I read Three Sheets a few months back, I too would recommend.

I have read that a few times now - the funniest bits (for me) are during his "prep" phase for the expedition, talking about the cost of buying things, and his reading about bear attacks in the middle of the night.
Snot out of nose whilst reading on the train times

Try telling that to the environmental fascists, or try getting a platform to tell them.

I liked Child 44, decent book would make nice film. Have to say I also read a lot of my sons books as well, gives us something extra to talk about.

It's a really good book and the sequel doesn't disappoint.

Can not recommend highly enough Ken Follet's new best selling book Fall of Giants and absolutely cracking read.
Fall of Giants, the first novel in my 'Century' trilogy, was published in 16 countries simultaneously on September 28, 2010. In Fall of Giants, I follow the destinies of five interrelated families – one American, one Russian, one German, one English and one Welsh – through the earth-shaking events of the First World War and the Russian Revolution.
