wiki definition
A cliché or cliche (UK /ˈkliːʃeɪ/ or US /klɪˈʃeɪ/) is an expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel. In phraseology, the term has taken on a more technical meaning, referring to any expression imposed by conventionalized linguistic usage. The term is frequently used in modern culture for an action or idea which is expected or predictable, based on a prior event. Typically a pejorative, "clichés" are not always false or inaccurate; a cliché may or may not be true.[1] Some are stereotypes, but some are simply truisms and facts.[2] Clichés are often employed for comic effect, typically in fiction.
So, I think we are all correct.
Happy?
Nope. But that's not to say I'm unhappy either

Nobody has mentioned "The Matrix"
A very enjoyable trilogy indeed.
First film is brilliant, but haven't watched the other two as I've literally not heard anything good about either of them and don't want to taint the first film.
How do you rate the other two?
First one = brilliant
Second one = noooooooooooooooo
Third one = so / so but worth a watch
COMPLETELY agree, in fact it's virtually what I was thinking The first Matrix is marvellous, just for its originality and ingenuity.
Spder-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire - first one good, second one brilliant, third one pretty decent but disappointing.
LOTR is ace but I find that there are people who love the books and therefore were bound to love the films too. I do love the book(s) but can definitely sympathise with those who don't. Personally I wouldn't bother seeing the films if I hadn't read the books first.
Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe trilogy - disappointing for me.
Original Star Wars trio - yeah, brill, but not to everyone's liking, some people just don't like mythical stories, science fiction or superheroes. I feel lucky (punk ) as I can get in to any type of film if the story's interesting and well told, even musicals.
EVEN MUSICALS!?!?!
Haha that made me laugh

I love 'Oliver!'.
'Wizard Of Oz' probably isn't classed as a musical is it (I wonder why) but I love that film too?
'Singing In The Rain' - superb, 'South Pacific' not as good as I remembered it as a kid, 'Seven Brides...' much better than I thought it would be (I think I was forced to watch it ) ...
And before I'm slated for liking musicals, or my sexuality is called into question, NOW might be a good time to admit to genuinely having a friend called Dorothy

Another enjoyable "trilogy" was the Indianna Jones films.
That's if you discount the crap 4th installment (The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull)
Great call Wigan White! For me, the true test of a great trilogy is to have a defining and brilliant third film. So for me, "Last Crusade" was the best of the three. Star Wars is another, as is LOTR.
Back to the Future, as Sheepy mentioned, really lets itself down in the third film. Alien is another trilogy/multi part that lets itself down as you go further.
I will have to add into the pot, Terminator (although sadly, another shit third film, but probably the best 2nd for me), Evil Dead (if you like this sort of thing, its TOP) and (I know there are more now) but George Romareo's Zombie films, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead....

I've not seen the 2nd or 3rd films, but the standard answer of greatest trilogy is usually Toy Story.

Other good animated trilogies I've watched far too many times with my son are Ice Age, Shrek and Madagascar. Although there is a fourth Ice Age now.

Loved the Bourne films. The 'Taxi' trilogy were entertaining, as were the 'Friday' films.
Here is a list of top trilogies from Empire.

Just seen Skyfall. Have to say that as a fan of the series it took me by surprise but I really enjoyed it. One of the best films I have seen that mixes huge action set pieces with small, intimate dialogue scenes.
Highly recommend to everyone. Bond fans will enjoy the change of pace, and non-Bond fans will just enjoy a great action film

Not yet, I need a period of detox from Adele's song before I can stand to listen to it again. Not that it's particularly bad, but it's been so overplayed I could almost go for a Bieber song, given the choice.

Fair enough, I hadn't heard it before the credit sequence and it really captivated me, really loved it in the movie, enough for me to buy the mp3 even I never buy music...

Used to buy all the latest dvd's from a Chinese fella in The Wagon & Horses are it was then, £2 each and fantastic quality. Think the OB felt his collar and haven't seen him for a couple of years now. Was always movie night after a game
