I reckon 4-4-2 is sooo last year (well, England 2010 at any rate).

4-5-1 is the way forward, with it actually being 4-1-3-1-1 or something similar. This is my starter for 10 (11), what would yours be?

GK - Kasper Schmeichel

RB - Paul Connolly
CB - Neil Collins
CB - Leigh Bromby
LB - Fede Bessone

RM - Lloyd Sam
CM - Jonny Howson
CM - Neil Kilkenny
LM - Aidy White (pace)

In the Hole - Robert Snodgrass

CF - Bill Paynter

Subs:
Higgs
Naylor (Kisnorbo will walk back into the side when fit)
Hughes (either side full back replacement)
Johnson (CM or LM)
Becchio
Somma
Grella

its a good headache for grayson isnt it!
I would try this-

Schmeical
Conolly
Naylor
Collins
Besione
Snodgrass
Kilkenny
Howson
Sam
Paynter
Becchio

Admittably thats the obvious line up but its easier to start with the obvious and then use variations on a theme

First of all, hi to everyone and greetings from Finland! Nice to see this forum alive.

My line-up is build to be able to keep the possession when needed and also trying to remain responsible at the back.
Basically just trying to be a team though to beat, which also seems to be thought in Grayson's mind when you
look at the signings he's made so far. I find that to be smart thinking from mr. Grayson.

And the line-up: depending on the opponent whether its more of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 (or even 4-4-1-1 and snoddy dropping behind
becchio and either White or Sam coming to the left side and Jonhson dropping to the bench)

-------------------Kasper-------------------
-Connolly--Naylor---Collins--Bessone-

------Kilkenny-Howson-B.Jonhson------

-Gradel----------------------------Snoddy-
-------------------Becchio-------------------

GK: Smeichel: since i find him very talanted and should be integrated to the team straight from the start
RB: Connolly: Seems to be way better than Crowe (sorry Crowe fans, but the guy is more of a league 2 player)
CB: Naylor: Graysons No.1 option for captaincy, so pretty straight forward there
CB: Collins: Decent player, but Kisnorbo will obviously take his place when fit
LB: Bessone: Comfortable on the ball and likes to get up, which is crucial to get a lone striker tactic to work

CM: Kilkenny: Obvious choice as a playmaker in this formation, and with his aggression also able to win back possession
CM (DM): Howson: Has to operate bit deeper than he is used to, since we are lacking in the ''kicks everything that moves''- department
CM: Jonhson: Has the ability to strike the ball and would win us some points with his long-range efforts, also able to keep possession and make some runs to the box along Howson

RW: Gradel: Undeniable skill and talent + also extremely high work-rate. I know everyone doesn't rate him, but i like the guy a lot.
LW: Snoddy: Well obviously.
ST: Becchio: Able to play with back to goal and move the ball to the other players making runs + Kilkenny

I think with this tactic we'd have some serious heart and aggression on the pitch (winning the ball back guickly and everyone playing their socks off), but also very good unity and we'd be extremely dangerous when moving in on goal.

I think we still need to sign a profilic striker and a holding midfielder. Arevalo (Uruguay) really caught my eye in the world cup and he's still playing for Penarol, so he could still be available on a reasonable price? Spearing on loan would also be a good option. The striker thing on the other hand is a real headache. I'd give Harewood a chance, since he is available on free and maybe bringing in Dalla Valle on loan from Liverpool if they are willing to let him go.

Peace,
Konsta

Hi mate, welcome in.

Its quite interesting how many people (inc myself) are pairing Becchio with Paynter when both are similar players, makes me wonder if Grayson has another striker waiting to sign up for us.

Higgs

Hughes Naylor Kisnorbo White

Gradel Howson Johnson Snodgrass

Grella Paynter

!. Higgs - hopefully now fully fit , solid , never let us down last season
2. Hughes - would die for this club
3. White - has pace - can work the left side with snoddy
4. Naylor - committed , experienced , one of our best recent signings
5. Kisnorbo - you'll never beat him - BUT INJURED
6. Johnson - solid , strong lad , hammer in his left boot , gets stuck in
7. Gradel - tireless worker , one or two tricks , bit feisty - BUT SUSPENDED
8. Howson - another who can dig , good passer and will pop up in and around the box and knock a couple in
9. Paynter - scored 4 against us last season , hoping he can do the same for us this
10. Grella - I'm his biggest fan , skilful , tricky and can finish - he and Paynter may just click and form a decent front pairing
11. Snodgrass - always looks knackered but is deceptive - tricky , runs at defences , knocks in decent crosses and has a good left foot

12. Schmeichel - just has to be patient
13. Kilkenny - too lightweight for me , no pace , lacks physique but has a good short passing game and links things together
14. Bechio - Can't fault his workrate , first touch could be better , gets on the end of things but doesn't score enough
15. Collins - from what I saw last season a decent stopper but a bit clumsy
16. Sam , Connelly , Bassone - haven't seen enough or anything of them to comment
17. Somma ? Our ' unknown quantity ' - his videos look good , could make an impact but again have seen very little of him so far
18. Bromby - slow
19. Crowe - 'legend' for clearing that off the line against Man U

Or that Kisnorbo is out until Christmas! Ah but that was me who first 'revealed' that fact on here, not that it was a world exclusive but I was told it quite early, and I know my posts on here either get ignored or scorned by certain people or just disagreed with

Thanks for that lads - my mistakes

by the way Megadan777 - its 11 a side not 12 , but worth a shot to try and sneak an extra player on . Or , can you not decide between Grella or Paynter ?

Believe it or not I've seen that happen in a match locally where the ref allowed a substitution but the team didn't take a player off and the game went on for ten minutes before the ref realised .
