Hi guys, dont know about you but im slightly worried about the lack of activity within the transfer front.

Three main gaps are still missing

- A quick centre back

- A strong central midfielder (experenced head)

- most importantly, a replacement for our goal machine beckford!

Totally agree about needing a new midfielder... Howson definitely needs a partner.

As for a Beckford replacement, Billy Paynter scored something like 29 goals last season, only 2 behind Beckford himself, so hopefully he can provide the goals we need. Also there are rumours going around that Grayson's interested in Lita and Chopra, so you never know....

As for Centre-Back, I think we're pretty well covered there, with Kisnorbo, Naylor, Collins, and Bromby, although i do understand your worries about pace at the back

To be honest I dont think paynter has what it takes to be a leading marskman for us, especially not in the championship. We need someone who is going to get us at least 15-20 goals and i cant see any of our strikers getting anywhere near that mark. Bates needs to get his cheque book out if hes serious about us staying up.

Ditto lads

but it looks like we have to offload before we can add to

I see the Greek club have pulled out of the deal for Ankergren , still no
movement regarding Robinson , Michalik and Kandol

we are shafted at the moment

Seems abit of a messy situation to me, i've got a feeling where going to see some loan players coming in within the next few weeks, as opposed to actual transfers. Not good if you ask me.

Hi Guys,

I am afraid I am very worried also. As things stand I don't see us having a hope of troubling the playoff spots as some suggest. Our lot will be bottom half, hopefully above the relegation zone.
Look at the facts. We had a poor second half to last season in League 1. We have spent I think 300k on Collins and 5 other frees. How do we seriously expect to compete in the top half of the Championship? I know some of the frees transfers are good solid players most of them, but not likely to move us towards the Premiership on their own. Its a shame because it looks like quite an open race to the Premiership this year.
We need as is suggested a big strong holding CM and a proven 15-20 goal a year Championship striker. Is this really too much to ask for spending about £1.5 -£ 2 million on a Hooper or similar? With the Delph money, the cup run, the money not spent buying TA, increased money from being in the Championship where has it all gone? Ken can give us a statement on vuvuzelas or other silly matters, but when we ask who owns the club or where is the money he is less forthcoming. He may yet prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Also I note the consensus is Howson + someone else in CM. I rate Kilkenny a better player than Howson. Any thoughts?

I'm worried too.

I have had 4 £50 bets that we will finish higher than Forest, Sheffield Utd, Derby & Leicester.

Whats the chance that I will break even?

My mates will be rubbing their hands

I don't think we stand a chance this season, My personal opinion is not enough has happened, We are not signing any players of any quality and i see a relegation battle coming up !!

We need a new owner !!

I haven't really posted to much during the off season as i don't see it's worth blabbing on about transfer rumors and what's happening out of season.

A few things have caught my eye though during this off season and they are the fact we haven't signed anyone worth shouting about and haven't really been linked with anyone of any quality. Also it seems Bates doesn't want to use his cash to buy any players so it's looks like an influx of Loan players, Which isn't a good sign.

Also the actual Pre season and the games we have played, From what i have read they haven't been anything that good and the players have been poor quality as a team. We lost to some unknown slovak teams, Scored barely any goals and as i just read which prompted this post...........We got PASTED by league 2 Bury 4 - 0 !!

If something doesn't change soon i fear we are going to get torn to pieces in this league and have to contend with relegation battle, I hope i am wrong but it's not looking good is it folks lets be honest !!!

Any thoughts about this?

Transfer window isn't anywhere near shut yet...

One pre-season flop, and we start panicking? I don't see the logic in that

Let's get into the season, and then we can start judging?

My Worries were well before the 4-0 thumping in all honesty. The number one priority is still to replace beckford, and we havent done that. Until we get somebody proven, i think its going to be a hard struggle for us this season.

Also howson for me isnt good enough, Kilkenny needs somebody strong at the side of him, and not afraid to put in a tackle, this will allow him to get forward and pass it.

In defence we look too slow, we need somebody whos abit more agile and athletic, there are alot of powerful strikers in the championship, very different from league one

About what in particular? You only repeated the worries that were expressed in a few other threads, so I've taken the liberty to move your new topic into this one. Let's try and keep things a bit coherent, please.

No problemo, may I also add, that the signing of collins for 300,000 was pointless in my opinion, we already have bromby, kisnorbo and naylor who are not the quickest. We needed someone younger, with abit of pace...Kilgallon like maybe

Just to throw this out there, do you really need a centre half who has pace if they can make up for it by reading the game? Both are qualities that Naylor, Bromby and Collins have.

Yes Sloopy, you do need fast centre-halves when they're facing fast attackers. i do quite like what I've seen of Collins, he tries to play the ball out of defence and not just hoof it, and he's not scared to go in where it hurts, body on the line etc etc.

I don't agree that the priority has always been to get a replacement for Beckford, for me it's been a central midfielder all along, for 2 seasons now, who can do all the basics a midfielder needs to do, especially tackle. With a stronger central midfield, there is less pressure on the centre of defence which can then mean that the 'nippier' type of forwards don't see the ball as much.

I am worried, not by the result but by the lack of transfers in. Not having a go at anyone but if people think the reason we've hardly bought anyone is because we need to get rid of those available Leeds players, then they need to wise up. The club has taken on more money, has no loan players to pay yet and has got rid of Beckford for one, and Casper, both on good pay. Bates out!
