Garper66 Hi All
I was wondering how to put this but one of my friends and a forum member of LUFCtalk Garper66 is in hospital right now after been attacked by a bunch of thugs (i could think of stronger words than that but i will cut out the swear words) on Saturday night as he was protecting his family and property.
I just want to say i hope that he has a speedy recovery (although there is suspected brain damage) and that he gets back to been healthy and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Below is what was released by the Newcastle Herald in today's edition.
Maryland family still in fear of drunken mob
BY DAN PROUDMAN CHIEF POLICE REPORTER
16 Nov, 2011 04:00 AM
A FAMILY who became innocent victims of drunken mob violence say they fear for their lives after receiving further death threats as the patriarch attempts to recover in hospital from a serious head injury.
Deidre Perkins sat with her husband, Gary, in hospital yesterday, pleading for her family to be left alone after they were attacked on Saturday night by party-going youths outside their Maryland home.
Mr Perkins, a 45-year-old support worker for special needs students at Merewether High School, is in hospital indefinitely after suffering the serious head injury when he was bashed with fence palings, wooden stakes and a metal pipe.
He is struggling with memory and concentration. Mr Perkins also remained in tears yesterday as he recounted trying to go to the aid of his family, who suffered the unprovoked attack by youths who ‘‘just kept running and running at us’’.
‘‘I thought we were all going to be dead,’’ Mr Perkins said yesterday.
‘‘I tried my best to help my family, and I tried to protect them but I cannot protect my family in here.’’
Mrs Perkins said: ‘‘He is a strong man but he is saying run away. They were just feral. They are now on Facebook threatening to come back on Friday and I just feel like a sitting duck.’’
Newcastle City police yesterday increased their resources into the investigation into the bashing following news of the fresh threats and concerns from the under-siege Perkins family.
The incident occurred after the attackers began taunting the Perkins children as they walked past from a late-night party.
Mr Perkins attempted to talk the youths into leaving the area without violence, but was hit in the back of the head with a fence paling.
He was knocked to the ground three times before being dragged down the street and kicked.
His son, 20-year-old Ron, and daughter, Jill, 23, were also injured in the attack. Both of the family’s cars had windows broken and their house was also damaged.
‘‘We are just desperate for something to be done so we can remain safe in our own home,’’ Mrs Perkins said.
‘‘We haven’t asked for, and do not want, any more violence.’’
Two youths have been charged with affray.
I hope everyone will join me in condeming this act of violence against another man (or women).
On a lighter note told by his wife he refused to have his Leeds shirt cut off by the doctor's when admitted to hospital (the doctor was a manure fan) eventually though it had to go although they said he was sitting up in bed in his Leeds shorts the next day, showing although in a distressing time his sense of humour was still alive.
get well soon!
ps Admin, i hope it was alright to post this but its something that i feel strongly about and i feel the need to expose what happened as it keeps happening again and again all over the world.
MOT!

Oh my God mate, that's horrific. Did he know the thugs or was it just a random attack?
If the people were targeting him on FaceBook, does that mean the Police know who they are? Because if so, I would hope they go away for a very long time!
Wish him all the best from me, and here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery.

I hope the head injury is not too serious and that he will get well soon, anyway I wish him a quick recovery.

Thanks TJ
They were gloating on facebook after the event so their profiles are accessible and the police have been informed.
They are a target now but weren't before the attack although some of the kids who joined in later were the ones who attacked one of his sons about 18-24 months ago and they recognised the family and started been ringleaders of the attack.

That is just unbelievable, my heart kept sinking throughout reading your news and the article. To hear of such cynical acts is so distressing, especially when it happens to someone you know even remotely.
I'm sure everyone reading this will join in wanting to wish him our very best, so please let him know he's in our thoughts and do keep us posted on how it's going. Everything else is unimportant now, just hope himself and his family are kept safe.

What utter pond life they are.
Hopefully they can be traced by the police. They may delete things but I am sure that the police can retrieve information from FB.
My thoughts are with Gary and his family.

Describing these cretin as scum is an insult to the word itself, they are far beneath that. Pathetic, weak, soluless, cowardly individuals who collectively become a menace. I hope they have reason to regret their actions.
Full respect to Garper for doing himself and mankind proud by standing up and protecting his family. My thoughts are with you, and I know everyone can't wait to see you back here bantering ASAP. Get well soon, all the best, Marching On Together. I hope you can watch and enjoy us trouncing Burnley on the beeb on saturday, and more importantly that you are back to full fitness ,and back with your family in the very near future

Thanks everybody I will pass on everyones good wishes to him and his family, i'm sure he'll appreciate it and any news that comes to hand i will pass on to everyone.
Other than it been on the front page of the newspaper it has been on the radio as well with one of the stations interviewing him earlier today and replaying his words throughout the day, hopefully it will have some effect and bring some togetherness from people far and wide to show that these type of people will not get the average man and woman down.
Cheers and MOT!

Shocking, truly shocking. And for them to be boasting about it after the fact just shows how neanderthal these idiots are. Please send my regards to Garper and his family. Trust him to not want his Leeds shirt tearing up.

Terrible news.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery and good wishes to Garper and his family.
Scumbags who do this type of attack don't deserve to walk the streets.
Lock 'em up and throw away the key.

Best wishes to Gary and his family of course. Horrible to read that but it seems promising he'll make a good recovery AND that the dregs will be caught who inflicted his injuries on him. Thanks for posting it Mr R.

That is terrible. My thoughts are with him and his family.
I would also be pressing the Police to look into the facebook thing to try and charge these scum bags with something more than affray.
Get well soon. Keep us updated.
