We have just sent Garper a card, gift and printout of the well wishes in this thread.
We have used some of the money that we have in the forum coffers to cover this, I hope this is ok with our members as the funds we have, are all donations or revenue generated from badge sales to primarily to cover the running costs of the forum.
Given the circumstances, we thought it was the right thing to do and something that we hope helps speed the recovery of a valued member of our community.
I hope this is ok with everyone.

I hope this is ok with everyone.
As well as been a Mod on here I am a contributor and believe that this is a fantastic gesture. It also goes to show as this thread does we aren't the biggest forum on the net but we look after our own.

I'm more than happy that my contributions may have gone a little way to help with Garpers speedy recovery. I'm sure he will be over the moon to hear so many care from so far away.
Good stuff from the admin and mods team with their prompt action and of course well done to our members.

I'm so sorry to hear news of this terrible event! My thoughts and best wishes to Garper & his family!
As others have said these animals need burching, locking up and the key throwing away!
As for the LUFCTALK gesture, absolutely fantastic and well done to the Admin/Mod teams!

No worries, but to be fair it was a collective decision and ultimately, the gift is from everyone because every member on here has contributed in some way or another. And I don't just mean those who have financially contributed, I mean each and every one of us who logs on, reads and posts because LUFCTALK is only as good as its members.
And at times like these it just shows how good the members are

When something like this happens to one of our own, we all feel the pain & any token of support which may help Garper & his family over this terrible time will no doubt be much appreciated.
Whilst it is fitting that we use the resources from previous ventures, I have not the slightest doubt that we would have been more than willing to make personal contributions to such a worthy cause.
Unlike other Forums we do all care about our members on here & whilst we may have many disputes on issues, when something like this happens it is fantastic to witness such a bond of support to a fellow member even though the majority on here have never met the guy.

Maryland vigilantes vow to fight back
BY DAN PROUDMAN CHIEF POLICE REPORTER
17 Nov, 2011 04:00 AM
VIGILANTES have vowed to ‘‘fight fire with fire’’ after the unprovoked bashing and subsequent death threats levelled at a Maryland family became the final straw for fed-up residents.
With Gary Perkins still recuperating in John Hunter Hospital and the rest of his family afraid to return home, other husbands and fathers have pledged to take back the streets from gangs of violent young people.
Mr Perkins, 45, was repeatedly struck with fence palings, wooden stakes and a metal pole as he tried to protect his family from a group of more than 15 drunken youths on Saturday night.
The incident happened about the same time as another man was bashed in an unrelated and unprovoked attack in another Maryland street.
‘‘There is talk of people getting together, we would be happy to give up our weekends and stick together, find where these grubs are and give them a lesson,’’ one resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Newcastle Herald yesterday.
‘‘This has been talked about for more than 12 months and then to see that family in the paper, that is it now.
‘‘We can have 200 blokes on the streets if they want us to. Everyone has had enough and are ready to fight fire with fire.’’
Mr Perkins, a support worker for special needs students, had tried to calm the gang, which had targeted his family home for no apparent reason.
Instead, he was attacked so badly he feared for the lives of his family.
Newcastle City local area command police did not respond to questions about their concerns over the possible formation of vigilante groups.

Shocking. I am stunned, knowing Garper personally, I can't believe what is the world is coming to with these packs of feral youths who show no signs of fear or respect for authority, property, or human life.
On a lighter note, I am surprised it took only 15 of them to get Garper down. You can't keep him down for long, and I am backing him to make a full and fast recovery!
Get well soon Gary mate, our thoughts are with you and your family!!!
And cheers to Sheepy for being so quick in getting a card organised, I am sure it will be a very touching gesture to Gary and his family....

Visited Garper today in hospital (his family were there when i turned up), although visiting was over i cheated by flashing my health service badge so they let me stay with him for an extra hour, he seemed quiet well and his long term memory is fine its just anything after saturday night (he can quote in detail all events of sat night) is a blur and sadly some simple things we take for granted are just not working but in time they should return. I gave him some of the comments from this forum and he said he would read them in a quiet time at the hospital, but did thank everybody for their kindness and will when he is back to himself write something on the forum for all.
Just thought i'd give you all a short update
MOT!
ps sadly my reasoning for been at his hospital was personal as my father had a seizure earlier in the day but thankfully it was caused by his medication and is now home, just knew it was going to be one of those weeks

thanks for the update Mr R, and sorry for your own troubles mate, sounds quite similar to what I go through with my own Dad.
I am a regular on another forum - LU and a lot of other stuff is blathered on about on there - and we've had a shock there recently too, but even worse. A poster died two weeks ago. I think life got too much for him. I never met him but knew him on the forum, he was a good lad.
