Sounds like Hodgson is a done deal...
Apparently he is the only manager who has been approached..?!

No, I don't see the problem with him at all. Plus, I like to see the English media annoyed, especially such a big job.

I'm not overly convinced. But we'll see.

In two minds about this; his record with English clubs is less than spectacular but he's had huge success overseas.
I wonder if the problems he has had here are related to the players; maybe he's not cut out to work with primadonnas but is a manager who gets the best out of solid, grounded players. He's arguably more successful with West Brom than Liverpool....
So, if he is appointed, I would expect that it would see an end to some of the old guard (particularly the ones above their station; yes Cashley, that's you!) and instead would bring in young players who want to play for England.
They may not thus be the most exciting to watch but maybe he would get results.

The FA always say that to make you feel special, i'd like to think he wasnt.
I have the same respect for the FA as i do our KB, none! After watching Eriksson and Capello waste what i believe was our best sqaud since 66, i have grown immune to the disappointment and hurt that England can now offer.
Give the job to "Terry Tibbs" at least we can laugh at us, along with the rest of the world

Talk to me!
A good call, and would probably handle the press better than any other previous England manager!

Not a problem for me, just happy we are at last choosing a englishman. I'm not a fan of the media favorite Rednap just another cockney conman for me.
Hodgson has international experience and did well, as he did in Italian football and at Fulham and West Brom. Ok he was a failure at Liverpool but with King Kenny sat on his shoulder did he really get a chance.
Rednap as had a career full of relegation battles, yes Spurs have done well, his first real big team, bought some class players but lets see what happens if the dont qualify for CL, feeling they have overspent big time and we all know what happens next.

I think he would have do well at Liverpool given the time & resources, instead they sacked him for an old favourite who despite spending a shed load of cash are only 15 points off a relegation place. No sympathy for them.
Anyway, I like Hodgson & think he is an excellent choice but not surprised the FA have chosen a literate manager who can write names on a team sheet.

I think Harry was too 'East End Cockney' for the FA. They want someone they can 'relate to' and 'get on with' which is why Brian Clough never got the job. I don't think Hodgson is a bad choice but would have preferred Redknapp.
Redknapp is the type of manager who can relate to players and knows how to motivate them and, heaven knows, the England team of the last several years needed motivating. Harry has a proven track record at Spurs. I know he inherited some good players but they weren't doing much before he went there.
My only hope is that, whoever gets the job, they maintain the discipline that Capello introduced which is the most important legacy he left. There is no room for the 'boys' club' environment of the McClaren years.

Ashley Cole might be a total tosser but he's one of the best left backs in the world so dropping him makes no sense, particularly when there isnt even close to a world class left back to replace him. Get rid of the likes of terry, Ferdinand and Lampard from the "old guard" but not Cole.

We've got Baines and Gibbs. Gibbs is very underrated and is not far off Walker's level. Arsenal's number 28 and Spurs' number 28 will be England's future full backs.

What a ridiculous organisation the FA is. The media are still reporting that the FA are insisting they have only interviewed one candidate and ever been interested in one candidate - namely Hodgson.
The England managers job is undoubtedly the biggest job in English football, so why the hell have they not looked at more candidates? Fair enough the list of suitable candidates is not that long but where else would you find a job with just one candidate? All he had to do was nod and agree in the right places and the job was his. Frankly I find it ridiculous.
Hodgson is a nice enough bloke, I like him, but he is a lamb for the slaughter with this job, more so than when he was Liverpool manager.

You would honestly drop Cole for Baines or Gibbs????

I would pick Baines above Cole any day, mind you Everton is my 2nd team!
Cheers
Johnh
PS I think Baines is better anyway - better defender, better crosser.
