Courtesy of \'Daisy14\' These 2 pictures were taken at White Hart Lane on Jan 15th 1954
John sent me these images via email and he asked me to share them with everyone.
John says the match was a replayed Cup tie after drawing 3 each at Elland Road. It was a Monday and there was hard frost over the weekend. The morning of the match it rained heavily. Because of the hard pitch the water could not get away. The ground staff attempted to sweep the water off, there is no way the match would have been played nowadays!
The second photo shows John diving at the feet of one of their players. He says 'I have never felt as cold and miserable in all my life because we lost 1 nil'
Thanks very much for sharing these John, brilliant images and great to have someone with us who can share these stories and images.

Brilliant. I saw the 3 - 3 draw at Elland Road. I was a young and innocent 17 year old
I can't believe the conditions they played in in those days (yes I can, I played in them!). The ref's mantra was 'if in doubt - play'.
Keep them coming John, many thanks.

As a centre half, the worst thing about the old heavy ball was when the goalkeeper kicked it from hand. It seemed to take an age to come down and all the time you were remembering that heading it was like being hit on the head with a mallet. Sometimes, it came as a relief when the centre forward got to it first! The odd elbow in the face from the centre forward was like a pin prick compared to heading the ball. The worst thing was the lace on the ball which sat proud of the surface. When I was courting my wife she once refused to go out with me one Saturday evening as I had the imprint of the lace across my forehead.
