May be clutching at straws.... But was speaking with someone very much in the know re football deals and he indicated everton are likely to be taken over shortly by someone of the magnitude of the city people. I personally got the feel it may be the Dubai investment corp.. Could be wrong, If these people are sniffing round they are likely to have looked at other options, given a prerequisite for the everton deal would be spending upwards of £250m on a new stadium, it would make Leeds look amazingly cheap. £40m to bates, £23m for the ground and £20m on a new stand. Ok you would have to budget to spend £25m maybe over two season to get us up.... But we are a steal. Even if everton is sold for£1 the net cost is circa £300m plus given their debt and the lead time acquiring the ground etc, and they will never have the potential of Leeds.
I can only hope my wishful thinking is correct, because if shake Mohammad did buy Leeds it would be a godsend. Those who know what he has put into horse racing and Newmarket will tell you if he did venture into soccer he would do it very much in the right way.

Just a thought but what with Adam Pearson leaving Dull I wonder if the rumour were to be true if he has any involvement in the grand scheme of things

I once posted this in answer to a question posted on a now extinct site.
During the 1980's Sheik Mohammed Ali Maktoum made a bid to buy Leeds United, Sheik Mohammed studied at Leeds university & during this time became a Leeds united supporter.
His bid was rebuffed by Leslie Silver & Bill fotherby.
I have to be careful how I word the next bit as I don't want this post being withdrawn.
Ok we all know the situation & the strained relationships between the Arabs & the Jews, so rather than state anything as fact as I certainly couldn't prove it to be so but I will pose it as a question, could the racial element have prevented the take over?

sheepy
Lets have a small reality check here, and I'm not saying this has come from anyone on here, but Ken Bates will not sell up because of the pressure from fans or LUST or anyone for that matter, Ken Bates will sell up and move on if it suits him.
Completely agree. However, I would add that I think Ken would be wise to sell at that 40 million price. Why? Because he is selling at a signifcant profit, and most importantly the value is headed down. While he won't sell due to "pressure," he must see the declining sales as a worrisome sign of decreasing value. Since he doesn't seem to want to change course in the direction his customers want, he may as well cash out now before the value drops further. It actually makes great business sense.

I hope this is true but it all seems too good to be true. I mean if its tue its everything and more than what lufc needs. The only thing we need to hope is that if this happens the put there hands in there pockets

This rumour malarky has been brewing on Thiccoe now for a few days. I would like this to be true but certainly not getting too excited. To many false dawns in the past.
Pay heed to what Sheepy has said about "being careful what you wish for". How many times has Portsmouth had a new saviour?

@DuncanCastles: For those asking, understand that Ken Bates has been looking for new investment in Leeds. Would take huge offer for him to sell up. #lufc

Sensible comment, but also Stockholm syndrome at its very best.

It's a sad reflection... That we collectively wish for new ownership... The man bates offers us very little hope.... I pray we have a change of ownership soon... Even a younger bates... One with the energy and youth to see a longer time game plan rather than constantly bleeding OUR club dry

This rumour is doing the rounds on WACCOE, Twitter, and various web blogs. Several people "in the know" (whatever that means) have added to it, and all of this is fuelled by Bates not saying a word (could he be on holiday?). It's hardly a rumour of substance yet, and I think this is a little bit pushed on by all our feelings that Bates has taken the football club as far as he can.
It might well be true, but it's certainly not firm yet.
