well the rumour has been brewing for a few month now,generally being dismissed as the nonsence it is,but it does seem to have gathered pace in the last 24/48 hours.
we all hope its true,but i think we all know its BS.
i firmly believe bates does want to destroy the loyal support and reputation of lufc.
hes often reported to be a vindictive old swine,and he does nothing to sway opinion from this--to be honest it wouldnt surprise me if this rumour had been started by bates himself(or by somebody at bates request).
i think its gathered pace more recently partly because we would all like to think there are reasons beyond bates being the tight sod he is, that we cannot afford the 400k needed for one of warnocks targets.

This isn't a single rumour going around for a few months as you say. And it's gathered pace from fans hearing of it, yes, but it's been started because a few credible sources (mainly LUST and TSB) have hinted that something positive is going on. They are also quite realistic sources usually, and not ones to spread BS just for the sake of it.

well i heard a takeover rumour a few months back,from a random webposting,twitter post and also a facebook post,but that sort of pettered out,and now its back in full force,only saying as ive seen it,not trying to upset any applecarts
edit orry my mistake,its about 6 week,i posted on april the 12th after i had heard it

I once posted this in answer to a question posted on a now extinct site.
During the 1980's Sheik Mohammed Ali Maktoum made a bid to buy Leeds United, Sheik Mohammed studied at Leeds university & during this time became a Leeds united supporter.
His bid was rebuffed by Leslie Silver & Bill fotherby.
I have to be careful how I word the next bit as I don't want this post being withdrawn.
Ok we all know the situation & the strained relationships between the Arabs & the Jews, so rather than state anything as fact as I certainly couldn't prove it to be so but I will pose it as a question, could the racial element have prevented the take over?

That Arab family were BIG Leeds fans in the 70s too and that rumour has been around a while, even before Leslie Silver was involved. Mate of mine is the son of the then Gen Manager of LU and some of us on here are good friends with a certain Mr Cocker too. Both have told me a few times over the years that the strained relationship between Arabs and Jews did scupper any possible deal. It's hard not to feel a bit gloomy about it, seeing as they were big Leeds fans, but I'm told they're not fans anymore. I dunno if that part is true though, and it's been posted on here more than once that we should get in touch with the family and plead with them to rescue us

I wont be getting my hopes up about any take over by Sheikh Mohammed.
More than likely this will be a smoke screen to cover up the fact KB isn't buying players, and needs to find time for the likes of Snod's to leave giving NW a million or two to spend.
The Everton rumor has been going on for many years and nothing has come from them. Everton and Leeds are two clubs spending way below their means, and talk of a take over is the perfect distraction, and u'll probably find Aston Villa will be using this old chestnut soon!
If Sheikh Mohammed was in town trying to buy Leeds utd, due to the massive impact that would have on football, you can be pretty sure that this would be picked up in the press somewhere by now!
I'm not saying it cant happen, but i would say 98% it wont, 2% it will, so i wont be dyeing my hair maroon just yet...

If we do get some investment I do think that it will be on Bates terms so he can still be Chairman. He know's that Leeds is a Gold Mine!

To be honest, I can see how it could have been taken too lightly, because it's a bit like suggesting you get in touch with the Emperor of Japan, but I do see your and ONS's point as well in there being no harm in trying.
