this season and warnock
Im not a Leeds fan i support CHARLTON ATHLETIC FC,but ive encountered warnock in the past when he was palarse manager he slagged us off at the time saying if the players where that passionate when beat us (palarse)they could have been higher up the table or something to those words he left the valley that night with a huge hump after we had a victory against his lot at the time, ive never forgiven him for saying that the following day.But times have changed and i thourght he did a brilliant job with qpr and definetly unlucky to have got the boot at qpr.Im sure if hes given the right funds by Bates then leeds could be up their with us charlton fc ,as u know we have 6 million to spend this summer through my contacts and after top players next season so i think warnock is right we could do a norwich but what worries me,that forest and cardiff are now richer than man city by all accounts following takeovers so the team who in the top 2 must start off well and get a few wins early and carry on that form to the summer next year.Get behind warnock he will do the same what he has achieved at other clubs like qpr etc he just needs a clearout of some of the current first team.

Anyway good luck for the season its going be an exciting new season im really looking forward to it.Ive writen a book which u leeds fans might be interested in has a photo from the play off final at st andrews in 1986-7 season price is £6-99 plus postage go to

I wish you hadn't mentioned that playoff. I was in the middle of exams listening to the match on the radio, when Charltons 2 late goals knocked me for 6. I went straight out the back garden and cried for an hour. Thought I could never face the world again.

Grim days, but we will rise again.

A lot of teams with money for next season. Please god this takeover goes through and Pappa Smurf takes a hike.

Welcome, and thanks for your post.

I must disagree with this. For starters, Forest are nowhere at the moment. The only rumour about them was the dodgy sheikh one, which disappeared as suddenly as it cropped up a week ago. We're looking more likely to be the subject of a takeover, and that's with us not knowing anything certain at all at the moment.

As for Cardiff, I think the whole club identity change for the sake of marketable value in Asia speaks volumes about what kind of business is to be conducted there. I wouldn't bet on them being higher up in the league this time next year than they finished this summer. A Welsh club with no history, supported by thugs who can't sell out their own ground at least once a year, taken over by Malaysians who think club colours are the biggest hurdle to success. I am severely unimpressed.

The Championship is a very tough league with some very good teams & you are newly promoted yet you are presuming you are going to be "up there" just because you have six million to spend, money does not guarantee anything, just ask any Leicester fan.

I was at that game & my lasting memories of the game are.
How quiet the Charlton fans were throughout the game, occaisional bursts of the same repetetive song.
How Loud the Leeds fans were throughout.
How quickly the Charlton fans left the ground, within minutes of the final whistle the Charlton fans had cleared the ground.
Leeds fans remained singing & chanting, you'd think we'd just won the champions league.

I have nothing against Charlton but I think they have been run along the same lines as Barnsley, happy with mediocrity.

Yea, its like a "where were you when JFK was shot" or is that John Lennon?:/
Anyway, i remember sitting on my bed listening to the game on my Walkman. I also remember very clearly thinking with 10 mins to go, at least we cant lose!! To say it knocked me for 6 would be a huge understatement, more totally devastated

Cheers. We made need it if Bates is still in charge. Chris Powell doing a sterling job at Charlton and it would be nice to see him take you back to the EPL as long as it's not at Leeds expense.

Am I the only one seeing this guy for what he is or are people just humouring him? He has a little dig " given the right funds we could be up there with Charlton" the mighty Charlton who have six million in their kitty.
He wants us to buy a book that he has supposedly written just because it contains a picture from one of our encounters with them, if the spelling & grammar in his post are anything to go by then I think he should be aiming for a less intelligent market.
I think this guy could be a remnant from the now defunct BBC site.

Thanks for your kind replies,I was at that play off final First thing that I rem on the day was being stuck in traffic on the motorway why i think the charlton fans where a bit quiet that night we were shoved in a far corner that night behind the goal, yes your right the atmosphere was electric that night from the leeds fans along the pitch u where everywhere had taken over the whole ground in every stand. We had journeyman pros in that team like garth crooks and a couple others i did here a rumour one of our players at the time refused to play because he shat himself with the stmosphere comming from u lot thats from several people!but thanks to peter shirtliff he kept charlton afloat those next few years i think if we had gone down that season that would have been it for us we were on the brink big time,i think that game and the sunderland game are my all time fav games for charlton, good luck to leeds i always look out for your results ever since u where in top 3 not so long ago -p.s i met yr old chairman peter risdale last year photo in book

Jonathan: Do you suffer from some rare phobia against full stops? I should imagine that is a serious hindrance in your chosen line of work as an author!!! However I did manage to find your website once I put a 'dot' between charltonfan and tv.

As a sales pitch I have to say it is probably the worst I've ever seen. I hope someone gave you help with the text in the book or one day you may find it in the Guinness Book of Records as the 'longest sentence ever written'!!! Also, trying to sell a publication for the best part of a tenner to Leeds fans because it contains one photo of a game that we would all rather forget was obviously not the best sales idea you've ever thought of, was it?

I'm sure the book is well intentioned and that serious Charlton fans would find it interesting but the price is very high for what it is. I expect the price is dictated to a large extent by the printing costs. Perhaps you should have considered offering it as an eBook at a much lower price and thus eliminating printing costs altogether.

Good luck for next season, and with the book, obviously.
