I used to keep a blackbird & will be getting another one later this year, no feathers on it though but a powerful 11oocc Honda engine.

Its all good but am off to Spain for a week Saturday (up in the hills a wee place called Ardales ) no English spoken so getting them looked after is fun, as well as the 2 dogs, fish and bearded Dragon. Still there's no way on a rainy winter Saturday I'd swap the shed and me radio for anything else.....oh wake up David ffs of course there is......

Slightly off topic, a couple of weeks ago my wife surprised me by buying a bird table for the garden at our new house. She hung feeders on containing peanuts, fat balls and mixed seed but nothing is coming to the table. Any tips from any of our knowledgeable folk on how to attract the birds to the table ?

I'd say one aspect to it is probably how long it's been up. Once they know it's there they'll keep coming back, so initially it might just take some patience.
My dad has one in his garden and there are constantly birds on it, but I think when he first put it up it was pretty quiet.
He also has to chase squirrels off it regularly as they love to come and steal the bird food but are too heavy and can break the hanging feeders.
Another factor could be what the rest of your garden's like and what sort of area you're in. Obviously I haven't seen it so I don't know, but a garden surrounded by trees, ivy and plants in a not too noisy area would get you the most birds in.

Cheers
We are on an estate but there are plenty of birds around, I think there might be a lot of tables to. The estate is very quiet though, the one thing we thought was that the previous guy who lived here had a dog whether that would have scared them off ?

Shouldn't have thought so, my parents have 2 pretty loud pretty big dogs, and even if they go out into the garden, the birds aren't that bothered as they can just fly up in the surrounding trees while they wait for them to go. It's probably just the time thing, but I'm no expert, Davycc or others might have some better knowledge when he comes on.

Depends on the birds really. Starlings and sparrows will have a go at anything from bread to dog food, I've seen my german shepard cross chasing starlings all day and they still come back. If you want to coax blue tits great tits etc then they are a little more prone to be wary of cats etc. hang feeders high of the ground Tables tend to be easy for cats etc to get at. repace food daily a little patience will pay off.

A family of Sparrows are using the table now so it's just a matter of time before they are joined by other birds, hopefully.

I have it from a source (that is trustworthy, but who cannot be named) that other birds are imminent.

Wild bird seed and patience, also don't give up. If they come for a feed once its pot luck so if they come back again and the tables bare the chance is wasted. Once they get used to knowing there's food there then jobs done. oh and if the food (seed) gets too wet which is likely this summer replace it.
