Well i was just reading an article about some of the free transfers around and wondered if you would take any of them.
http://www.football-lad.com/fi...h-out-for/ - Thats the article in question.
Personally i wouldn't mind Sammy Clingan, and he is in the mould of a player Neil Warnock would sign. Someone who hasn't quite the most of himself, someone who would fit into a Neil team and someone who will get stuck in. Mcfadden is clearly talented to, its just whether he can keep himself fit, if he can he would be a great signing. Kewell and Bowyer may still have it but i doubt they are cheap. Shittu would no doubt be a Neil Warnock signing to so wouldn't say not to a few of them. Wondered if i was the only one who would take these!

I agree that Clingan would be a good signing and I think he could be a deep lying creative player, its a shame that we still have brown because I think that he would of been a great addition to the squad. But you never know.....

Have to agree on Kewell personally i wouldn't want him, but he probably still has some ability. Just shows though there are still some quality players out there.

Kewell, for me, was one of our best players and a favourite of mine especially in the last 20 years. BUT, irrespective of he signing for THAT club, the way he treated Leeds when signing for Liverpool, not only did he ruin my honeymoon at the time ( as my mrs is a Pool fan!), but the shoddy way he held the club to ransom has tarnished him in my eyes and he is forever confined to the list of Leeds players I NEVER want to see gracing ER again.
PS: He never attained his Leeds form with any other club since which tells me he knew himself how much of a pr**k he acted at the time.

Clingan is a decent player, but surely we have enough of that type of player now. I would see Brown, Green, Norris and Austin all in that mould and they will not all get a regular game. I would like to see a more creative midfielder alongside them who can get the ball down and pass it through the middle, a bit like Howson, although I'm not sure if that is the type of player that is required for NW's tactics.

Agree. I still think Clayton could have done a job for us this season.

On a similar note I see Adam Barton is set to sign for Coventry from PNE. A year ago there was talk of him off to Liverpool for £5m. I think he broke his leg at the start of this year. Still potentially an excellent young CM who I would have thought was of a good Championship standard.

I still don't understand why Clayton was allowed to leave either.

Because he wasn't as good as he seemed, Warnock didn't want him, and we were offered money for him. He was good for the first half of the season, but as soon as he lost Howson with him he lost all of his form and lost most of his cutting edge.
Let's not forget that just over 12 months ago, Clayton couldn't even make the bench in a side that accommodated Kilkenny and Livermore.

Ok, he didn't have a great second half to the season, but he is a better player than Michael Brown and he got to stay. Brown, Green, and Norris are all the same type of player and from what I've gathered Austin is too. Clayton didn't make the team season before because he was out on loan getting some experience of first team football.
A younger, more creative player with an eye for goal would be a good option to have amongst our current midfield options. So lets keep an eye on him this season and see if it was a good move or not.

I don't think Warnock has creativity come from central midfield but instead the flanks and the player behind the ST. Clayton doesn't fit into Warnock's style of play either, sadly.
Brown got to stay as he's one of Warnock's boys like Paddy Kenny.

I think that's arguable. I'd prefer Michael Brown to Clayton for this upcoming season. Clayton was not the right player for Warnock in my opinion.

Have to say really liked clayton .... Thought he was our best player prior to Xmas... Better than howson and snodgrass.... Was poor after Xmas .... But who wasnt shit except brown!
In warnock we have to trust, a midfield that kicks to kill suits me!

I'm not sure Brown vs Clayton is a like-for-like comparison. I think essentially it comes down to Warnock seein them as two pieces for two differences places in his puzzle. Of course, Brown is someone to fall back on rather revolve around, but equally, elsewhere in midfield, Clayton's capacity was something that could be improved upon (especially as he didn't seem completely committed to the cause).
As for watching him henceforth to decide if it was a good move or not, it's not as simple as that. He's only gone to Huddersfield, mind you, promising team, maybe, but settled competitors in this division, no. He may well be the dog's doo-dars for them, but it won't necessarily mean he would have been the same for us. How less of a could Grayson have given when he decided against keeping McSheffrey? And he went on to be reasonably exciting for Coventry's fans. But he's still a League One player as it stands, and counts 2 goals in one game vs Leeds as his career highlight probably.
