No singular for Skown then on the Hamble (which we pronounce B.r.o.o.k up 'ere by the way ;) ) Plenty of timber around I expect :)
When I was young I said to my mum, 'are the hills in the distance America?'

Sk-on is the singular.

The Hamble ?
Don't like yachties .. couple of nice pubs there, but they're normally full of tossers.
The New Forest, on the other hand, is wonderful in every way :)

Scone is con with s in front
Bath as in Kath
Yes, it's 'bait' in the NE.
On the subject of pronunciation, I get unreasonably narked when 'th' is pronounced 'f' and 'k' is added to something i.e. somethingk, nothingk etc
or should that be noffingk. I fingk it might be an Essex or Cockney thing. I'm now getting agitated so I'm off to a dark room to wait for my carer.
I suppose this is a case of pots & kettles given the way we taak up here!

The 'Essex' or 'Cockney thing' is, I think, 'Estuary English'. It is diabolical. One of the things that grates with me is, they don't say 'ask' they say 'aks'.
I once played against Don Revie.
