Obviously I don't know the detail but if they changed the terms of the contract from 4G to 3G then you should have the option of cancelling, on the basis that it was not what you originally asked for. You might have been better leaving the contract as a 4G contract and cancelling because they couldn't provide the service.
Definitely John but when a Vodafone agent from their cancellation department assures you that 4G would be available within 3-4 months you take their word.
Well drafted off a letter to Jeroen Hoencamp, Vodafone UK CEO. Got a letter back yesterday from one of his "Specialist CS Agents" thanking me for contacting him and apologising for the poor customer service. They have stated that I can return the phone and have the contract terminated free of charge but would like me to call him on a direct number as being a "long term valued customer" they would like to resolve the matter in another way if possible.

I didn't mention it at the time because you were already wound up enough but there's no such thing as a cancellation department. The person you spoke to would be from their retention department, ie. the team that tries to persuade people NOT to leave the service provider.

I've mentioned before on here that if you're ever at the point of leaving because of a complaint or at the end of a contract looking for a better deal, the best thing to do is ALWAYS to call customer services and speak with someone directly, rather than go through staff in a shop. The ones at the call centre have much more leeway and a bigger budget to spend on each customer, so that's why they're always able to promise you more than the average grunt on the high street.

mate your right about the department thing, all I know is that theres some office probably a VERY busy one where agents try to keep customers. I always call CS as in the shop they always repeat "we can't do that, only customer services can"

Honestly if it wasn't for a couple of lamp posts and a main road between me and my target calls I'd stick with 2 bean tins and a piece of string.
