Intelligent DnB ??
Anyone like it ??
I first got into it with LTJ Bukem's Earth series but find myself increasingly drawn to the more melodic stuff.
I just made a mix of Roy Ayers' remixes and the first few tracks were DnB jobs and I cannot get one particular song out of my head ever since.
This is the original :
... a veritable vibraphone feast and a great jazz-funk chooooooon.
But then this is the remix - an altogether different beast, but still absolutely funktastic :
I love the layers, the textures and the way it's three different tempos at once.
It reminds me a lot of prog rock fused with jazz and house.
I drift off listening to the bassline before unconsciously switching to the electric piano, then the drums and it's back to staccato cymbals ...
Once you "get it", drum and bass can be a wonderful thing.
It's like hip hop in that there's way too much prejudice against it. Given the right first few tracks, it can be a very enjoyable form of music ...

A bit insipid. No energy. I prefer something with a bit of zing. Here a nice piece from 1972 but you would think it was from around 1965.
Michel Legrand and Bach what a combination. Also the saxophonist isn't bad.
