Wow can't believe that the knowledgeable crowd on here let the England v NZ test go by without hardly a comment....
Not only a top notch cricket spectacle also a first rate sporting event played in a totally sportsmanlike ambience. The Kiwis are a hugely talented side led superbly by McCullum with excellent batsmen and dangerous bowlers who contributed enormously to five days of gripping entertainment.
Next up at Headingley, but why oh why only two test matches....?

Re: The Cricket Thread
Probably 2 reasons in the ECB minds
1. They don't think the Kiwis are a big enough draw to have more than 2 tests or competitive enough (which if you look at their record recently they are a decent enough team who can/will beat the best teams on their day)
2. the Aussies are coming for another Ashes series so who ever comes before them will always only get 2 tests (its happened before many times)
got to feel for the Kiwis as you score over 500 in your first innings and still lose a test. Good to see Cook/Stokes/Root get some runs.

Great win
In case anyone's not aware New Zealand are ranked no.3 in the World at the moment behind South Africa and Australia, while England are joint 5th

Too true, so great to see sport played at its very best, played with mutual respect, without the aggravation of unsporting attitudes; incompetent officials or a combination of both.mapperleywhite wrote: Wow can't believe that the knowledgeable crowd on here let the England v NZ test go by without hardly a comment....

According to a comment on TV, if England win the next match they go to no. 3 and NZ go to no. 5.whiteinfrance wrote:Great win

Headingley was the scene of James Anderson getting his 400th wicket for England and also the 1st Englishman to reach 400.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Good to see Lyth get a century in the first innings but well done to the Kiwis for playing some good tough cricket and getting a fully deserved win, only their second ever win at Headingley as well. Ballance/Bell/Root will have to find their scoring form soon because its only going to get harder in the Ashes series.
Aussies start their test series over in the West Indies tonight, be interesting to see how they go over there as England has not long being over there for a test series which ended 1-1.
