Root is just so far ahead of any other batsman in the world at the moment, incredible.
I once played against Don Revie.

He is in an exceptional run of form and, looking at his scoring record he is utterly outstanding. A sportsman of the like you don't often get to witness in a lifetime. I am not sure he is getting all the plaudits he deserves

Agreed. Tbh though, John, prior to the double century he had against India on their own patch his form was a little shaky, Root would often get to 60/70 then wouldn't make a century but the last 6 months that has changed, he really has excelled. The only downside to it all is from a batting perspective, he's having to do it all by himself more often than not.

Very sorry to hear the news of Ted's passing.
I havn't followed cricket for many years, since I left school, but growing up in the 1960's, Ted Dexter was a household name.
The early 60's test series against Australia and the West Indies stick in memory when Dexter and a clutch of other great players from all the teams graced the wickets.Dexter wasn't your working class hero, not a Brian Close, military family, Cambridge university, played Rugby and cricket for Cambridge, great golfer invited to join the pro' circuit, fashion model wife, race horses and fast cars, but a great batsman who deserved the legendary status he deserved. Also his involvement and service to cricket after retiring from playing.
RIP Ted.
