Going well thanks Davy, got to Dublin couple of days ago. Been in Galway City today and had the pleasure to meet up with KK this morning for a coffee on route. Great group we have on talk
Bit windy seen plenty of trees down and our cottage had a power cut. Internet is iffy so will report more when home.
Couple more days here then heading for the south west.

Great to see you're enjoying Ireland SW, The south west is my spiritual home. You will love the scenic views of Killarney, dingle and try to get over the Connor and Healy passes, they are amazing yet daunting at the same time. Damn i miss home sometimes..... Enjoy yourself mate.

Corky
You are about spot on where we are staying, have a cottage booked near Castlemaine (a village called Boolteens to be more accurate). Both Killarney and the Dingle Peninsula are on the agenda.
Will be down there Saturday for a week.

Last night in Ireland tonight so off to the local village pub for our meal.
Long drive to Belfast tomorrow (fortunately we share driving duties) but no real rush as we are on the night ferry to Birkenhead.
Been a cracking trip and some of the scenary can only be described as stunning, people have been great and all I can say about the food is the belt has moved out a notch.
That's only part of the highlights was a real pleasure to meet up with a couple of talkers during our travels.

Ireland :-

Day One - After a Good Premier Inn Breakfast somewhere near Birkenhead had a nice calm crossing (8 hours) to Belfast before an hour drive to our hotel (another Premier Inn) at Coleraine. Didn't arrive until 8pm so it was a quick shower before diving into the excellent Pub next door.
The hotel was good except we had a issue with the heating in our room not working, told reception and they gave us a fan heater which was more than adequate so were happy at that.
However to their credit they gave us a free breakfast for the four days we were there, went somewhat to towards the extra kilos I put on during the holiday.

Day Two - It was a nice walk to the Giants Causway along beaches and Cliff Tops from Port Ballintrae and back along a disused Railway line. The cracking views along the coast and excitement of a stiff breeze threatening to blow you off should have been the days highlight. However it was the day of my proposal to Cathy so that topped it when she said yes. :D

Day Three - Visited Belfast which from a tourist point of view we found a little disappointing, could have been any city, ok but nothing special. Still was a good day as on the way back was able to meet up with another talk member "Davycc" and had a chat over a beer.

Day Four - Visited a lovely place called "Roe Valley Country Park" which we enjoyed, had a good walk and covered a few miles along the river bank in both directions from the visitor centre.

Day Five - Was a travelling day to our base for the next 7 nights in Galway, in fact a village called New Inn. We had rented a cottage which was quite big and very well equiped. New Inn itself was in the middle of nowhere but a good base.
On route we did get chance to visit a couple of cities, Donegal which we liked and wish had a little more time and Sligo which was a little dissapointing, found it rundown compared to many other places we saw on this trip.

Days 6 to 11 (not in order)-
Spent one day in Dublin which is a great City and well walked most of the touristy areas before eating at an excellent restaurant before the journey back.

Galway City was another port of call and was fortunate enough to meet up with another talk member "KK White" for a coffee. He made our day giving us a card and bottle of wine to celebrate our engagement, true gent.
Other thing I remember it was very windy saw numerous trees uprooted and driving was tricky.

Boora wetlands near Kilcormac was a walking destination which we enjoyed. Do remember stopping for a coffee in a castle at Shannon Bridge on the way.

Visited Portumna enjoying the town during the morning then doing a forest walk which took you to the top of Lough Derg in the afternoon.

About 30 miles to the west of Galway City to Gorumna island was a fantastic walking destination on another day.

Our final day in the area was a bit of a wash out to be honest with a fair bit of rain. However visited Birr and its superb castle and also had a look around Athlone on our return to the cottage.

Evenings were a mix of eating in and visiting restaurants in Loghrea can't remember their names but all was good.

Day 12 - Another driving day. Took a packed lunch and ate it looking at a super view from a place called "Graves of Leinster Men". We were basically half way up a mountain overlooking the south end of Lough Derg, super picnic spot.
Took a few minor scenic highway roads eventually reaching our next cottage near the Dingle Peninsula.
Officially in a village called Boolteens (which has two good pubs) but our cottage was actually up a country lane a mile and bit away. Lovely spot the people that owned it had baked us a lovely Apple Pie and left a bottle of wine among other things to welcome us.

Day 13 to 18 (not in order) -
Was actually a excellent 7 mile walk starting in Boolteens Church that initially took you to the main estuary then half way up a mountain.

Drove most of the "Ring of Kerry" visiting numerous places, the scenery is so good its scary.

Saying that you could argue the Dingle Peninsula is even better, did the full circuit and across the Connor Pass. Did a 5 mile walk near Slea Head (europes most westerly point apparently).

Visited Killarney and Muckross house.

Sent another day in Killarney national park (Molls Gap, Ladies View, Torc Waterfall, etc), breath taking is the word.

Visited Bantry, Glengariff & Kenmare all worth a visit.

Ate in the cottage a couple of times but to be fair the local Pub grub in Boolteens and Castlemaine was too good to ignore.

Day 19 - Was a long drive back to Belfast for the night ferry (10-30pm) but we made the most of it taking the smaller scenic routes rather than the motorways as had plenty of time.
After boarding we regretted been tight Yorkshire folk and not paying for a cabin but were in luck when one of the officers onboard gave us a freebie cabin, not sure why but we both crashed and got a good sleep.

Cracking holiday

Had a pleasant stay at the Middlethorpe hall just outside York last night. Unfortunately for me i missed the game due to us having dinner at 8pm. The food for dinner was very good and comes highly recommended.
