Capo de Monte, wasn't he in the middle of the back four for Atletico Madrid?

Got to thinking this morning how food has changed over the years. Back when I started work as a waiter things like braised oxtail, jugged hare & roll mop herring were common place on menus. Most menus offered a fish course on their evening menus. Kedgeree was popular at breakfast. Anything you remember from your youth that’s no longer in fashion ?

My current wardrobe (clothes not furniture) keeps going in and out of fashion.

Gooseberries, loved them in a pie or crumble with custard.
Cant remember last time I saw them on a dessert menu.

Peach Melba, I remember taking a lass out on a date & she thought she was the height of sophistication having one. Thing is they were tinned peaches as well. Another was Pear Belle Helens, basically tinned pears, ice cream & chocolate sauce. We knew how to live back then

At Christmas when we had cold turkey on Boxing Day we had a hot & spicy gooseberry relish which was lovely. Rhubarb is a particular favourite of mine ;)

In the late 1950's, all the girls in the office I worked in, were discussing what 'scampi' was. No one knew and they had a competition to guess what it was. Can't remember what won it but for some reason I always remembered one of the entries - 'banana's dipped in batter and fried'. Different times.

PS I hadn't a clue either.

That’s reminded me of another old favourite Chicken Maryland. Which constituted of deep fried chicken breast, with deep fried banana & often deep fried pineapple with chips. Haven’t seen that on a menu for absolutely years ;)
