Was out in York yesterday a city I always believe is one of the nicest but was shocked at how many shops were boarded up especially around two of the main streets (Coney Street & Gillygate).
Always thought it was one of the City centres that was surving.
Don't get me wrong still a great place to visit but starting to look shabby around the edges.
Went on the train mid afternoon, bit of a walk around before a beer then meal with a nice red before taking in a show.
Late train home.

Just watching Tenable and one of the questions was about the top 10 Ealing comedies I said Kind Hearts & Coronets, the Lavender Hill Mob, Whisky Galore & Oh Mr Porter. To my amazement the last choice wasn’t on the list. I Googled the movie & it was base£ on a play The Ghost Train written by Arnold Ridley ( Private Godfrey in Dads Army ) it was the largest grossing movie of its time with box office receipts of £500,000 which in comparison in 2020 was the equivalent of £34,000,000. Ridley went on to write a further 30 stage plays but lost all his Monet in a couple of ventures that didn’t go too well.
The 1950’s we a golden age for classic British comedies for me.
