Thoughts are with you my friend, stay strong
Re: The blabla of the forum
Hi all,
Thank you so much for the kind thoughts, This wasn't intended as a "woe is me" thread (well, maybe subconsciously). It was more that I couldn't continue posting on here without acknowledging the past few months and Tom's passing. He had no interest in sport but if he ever saw that I was watching Leeds he would always ask "how are we doing?". He was a film-maker, a writer (film scripts, radio programmes, blogs, weird stuff...), a teacher, an organiser, a leader, a comedian, an auteur. To slightly misquote the famous line from On The Waterfront, he could have been someone.
Life is glorious, Death is cruel.
Thanks again, guys. And the point to look after myself has been noted.

Sniffer, please don’t apologise for bringing this on here, I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say we are all mates, and if us mates can help you in any way, however small, in dealing with such a traumatic situation then please, please, please do not hesitate to seek that help.Sniffer wrote:Ok, after a bit of mindless levity I need to bring in the tragedy. I've been debating whether to mention this or not for some time but today marked the end of a long road and the start of an even longer one.
In April my son, Tom, was diagnosed with stage 4 Adrenal Cancer and Cushings Syndrome. Cushings is a disease that predominantly affects middle-aged/menopausal women. It messes with hormones but 99.99999% of the time any tumour is benign. Tom's wasn't. He probably contracted it in his teenage years when hormones are spinning around like dervishes. He went though 3 rounds of Chemo fairly easily and was due a scan to see how the tumour was. Unfortunately blood tests showed that he wasn't responding. On Friday 30th of July he was admitted to a local hospice and on the 4th of August he passed away in his sleep.
He was 24 years old.
Today was his funeral.
I'm sorry to bring this to you but please be assured that over the last few months this site has been a refuge away from the horrible realities we've been dealing with. Thank you, my friends.
I’ve gone through what you are now going through in losing a child, it’s utterly horrific. We were told that as a family we would navigate our way through it all, and we did, but we needed help along the way. I’m repeating myself, I know, but we are all here to help, either on this thread or via PM, so please contact us if you need to.
Thoughts with you and the family.

Sniffer, can't comprehend how I would handle such a situation. Will say a prayer for your son and your family. Please take the good advice of many on here about asking for help. This site is like a family and families support each other whatever the difficulties. Keep strong.

I've just read the last couple of pages and I can't imagine what you've gone through as we don't have any children. I do know that everyone on here will have you in their thoughts and prayers and hope you and your family get through it safely.
There's light at the end of the tunnel and the future's looking very bright indeed.

Just watched the first episode of Porridge, Prisoner and Escort. Mr Mackay says " I'm hard but fair." Fletcher says "Like Leeds United".

Had arranged to play snooker today. Been suffering from a niggly back recently, so decided to soak in a hot bath last night to try and ease it a bit. When I was getting out of the bath I slipped and fell back into the bath. I had put quite a bit of water in the bath and it came over the edge like a tsunami and flooded the bathroom floor. Fortunately.
I didn't break anything but have several bruises and sore spots. Needless to say, I had to cancel my game of snooker. Back to showers from now on.
