Not too happy with the Docs this morning.

In November I had a couple bad infections in my elbow and hand to the degree I couldn't use my right arm or grip anything with my hand.

Hence contacted the docs and got a phone consultation with a Paramedic rather than a doctor.
He suggested it was likely caused by gout which I've been prone to over the years.
He sent me for a blood test to confirm his thoughts and put me on a daily medication to control the uric acid levels. I've avoidiled this in the past and just taken anti-inflammateries when I get an attack.
However I agreed as recently things have been worse and he told me the procedure was to start on a low dose then do a blood test after a month to see how they were working but its likely the dose may need increasing (and then procedure repeated a month later until they get it right).
Had the blood test just before new year and heard nothing back so thought I'd call in at the docs to find out why.
The receptionist looks on her computer and tells me my test is back.
I ask the obvious "why hasn't he called?"
Answer "Because he's left :?"
So who is dealing with my case?
Nobody
"Well what do I do?"I asked
" Have you increased your dose? “
"I need a doc to decide that"
She said
"I'll get someone from our phamecutical team to look at it"
"Will they phone me"
Answer
"Maybe but if they don't you should ring us as we are often too busy to make calls"

Feeling i will be back tomoz and not so polite.

Best of luck with it, Mick, but don't lose your temper with them, it isn't their fault and it won't make you feel any better or get things done any more proficiently. I am due for an ankle op - but there's a wait of 9 months at least, the consultant told me - I'd actually been warned before that the waiting list was double that!

How can nobody be dealing with your case, surely it’s passed on to someone else when a doctor leaves ?.

Like ANS says, it’s not the receptionists fault and it’s not right to have a go, as we all know the NHS is under strain but the organisational side of things is baffling at times.

This has been the trouble for years now, to much bureaucracy, money keeps getting piled into the NHS and there seems to be no improvement, I would love to see accounts for where all the extra money goes.

A few years back - as I reported on here at the time, I think - I developed a chest infection. The awkward thing it was new year's eve and my GP wasn't available but our landlady suggested calling 111 - an option I hadn't considered because I didn't know about it. Whilst I cannot say the process was speedy Paramedics turned up and eventually ambulance men who took me to hospital.

My point is try 111 Mick; you'll initially get a person with limited medical knowledge but they'll identify a specialist to help you. If they say you'll get a call within the hour you will in my experience.

Let us know how you get on.
Might have to take an interest in the Premier League now....

The narking thing is that it's something that is ongoing and the person dealing with me as left and my file seems to have not been passed on.
Going to insist on a consultation with a Doc.
