The mindset of some is just astounding. Time, place, effort - just extraordinary and marvelous! - and all done simply because it was a good thing to be doing
Well done Sir Tom.

A friend of ours took our advice & did an online shop with Tesco after trying for ages to get a slot. She put 3 items in to secure the slot, spending £2:30. The day before she went back on & did a full shop. Yesterday her order came & all she got was the 3 items she had originally ordered & that was it. She hadn’t completed the order confirmation so everything else she had ordered didn’t count. Plus she paid £4 delivery

She’s not alone NW, around Christmas a couple of years back slots were in short supply, so when Mrs B got one she put on 5 bottles of champagne intending to alter the order later. She completely forgot and, sure enough, 5 bottles of champagne were delivered. Thankfully, we could get reimbursed in store, otherwise it could have been a costly mistakeNottinghamWhite wrote:A friend of ours took our advice & did an online shop with Tesco after trying for ages to get a slot. Apparently its similar if you shop at the store. It was Mrs SW turn to go this week (we alternate) and she came back with a large bottle of expensive Gin, two massive bars of galaxy chocolate and a box of chocolate éclairs.Barlow Boy wrote:She’s not alone NW, around Christmas a couple of years back slots were in short supply, so when Mrs B got one she put on 5 bottles of champagne intending to alter the order later. None of them on the list she set off with.

Don't have that problem SW. Her indoors is a Yorkshire lass who was sent on a 'thrift' course when she was growing up. She thinks 'thrift' is the same as 'extravagance! Even now (before lock-down) she would walk round town three times as she is sure that she saw the item she wanted at 2p less than where we first saw it.Selby White wrote:Apparently its similar if you shop at the store. We were due to have a few nights in Filey at a hotel called The White House taking in the cricket. The hotel recently changed hands & I’ve had an email from the new owner this morning. He took over on 1st April & thus far hasn’t welcomed a guest through the front door let alone poured a glass of wine, apart for himself. Talk about unlucky.

Similar situation from our point of view as Cathy's sons new restaurant (Henley) was due to open in April (buildings been months getting renovated in preparation), its a big step up and risk as he had around 50 staff starting. Its a upmarket fine dining restaurant (actually 3 restaurants, 2 Chefs Tables and a Grill) and also part hotel (7 rooms) doing weekend stay/dine packages.NottinghamWhite wrote:We were due to have a few nights in Filey at a hotel called The White House taking in the cricket. He's actually part opened as a fine dining takeaway and its proving popular and helping him tick over. I suppose with the lockdown a bit of indulgence and Posh Grub is a big pull for people that like to eat out.
Looking forward to visiting when it opens proper (bit far for a takeaway )

Where our daughter lives in Northampton there’s a fella who’s become a chef & he cooks & delivers 5 nights a week. Supposed to be excellent quality, doing so well he’s packed his day job in. We’ve nowt like that round here, sadly. Miss going out for a meal.
