Apparently he collapsed while a match (heart attack?) and couldn't be revived.
Sadly just over 2 month ago another friend died in exactly the same circumstances.
Both were in their early 70s but in good health so both unexpected.
In the 12 month in top of these have lost 2 ex work mates and 3 cousins.
Certainly passes on the message live for today.
It's scary SW. I'm just in from playing squash with a youngster of 50. The heart specialist that travels with the patients we fly calls squash the widowmaker I decide if the exercise is good for me or going to do me in. What I will say and I know for a fact (as figures have been put out there somewhere) that when you retire if you do nothing,no exercise, has no interests etc you don't survive as long. What I'd say is if your enjoying it play away as you say live for today

it was brand new when i bought it. In the Philippines they have different policies regarding warranty. The products are not as good in my opinion as the ones back home also. but it was brand new when bought just over six months ago. I have fixed the issue now anyway.

I'm not technically gifted personally speaking and i get stumped at times, but i am persistent if i need to be when it comes to figuring out how to correct things and i will research or find the solution. Self reliant is what i am. Either it gets fixed 100% or i throw it in the bin and get a new one. This time.... no need to throw in the bin

I've managed to extend the lives of computers simply by reformatting the HDs and reinstalling Windows, often a newer version.
Obviously upgrading RAM and stuff helps too.
My current desktop, which I'm using right now to write this, is pushing 10 years old and has been maxed out.
It's still quick enough for everything I do but I can't play the latest games so it's due for an upgrade.
Think I might move it downstairs and use it as an entertainment station as it has a 2Gb HD inside and I've got external drives with TV and movies on so that would make sense.

Is the stuff cheaper over there though ?

Generally speaking it can be cheaper to buy stuff here but a lot of it is Chinese made stuff which in truth can be suspect at times but has improved considerably over the years.

Ever play Factorio game? i think its awesome to be honest. Have a look on youtube about it.

I've heard of it but I just don't like real-time strategy games - I've never been able to get on with them for some reason.

Still play COD MW3 online, but I also play a lot of something called The Dark Mod, which is a fan-produced version of Thief (the original, not the rebooted version). It uses one of the Unreal engines (same as Doom 3 I think) and there's hundreds of maps to play, lots of them full campaigns that are way longer than the actual game it's all based on. Some of these levels take years to produce and the detail involved is mind-blowing.

If you've not played the original, it's a stealth FPS without the shooting, if that makes sense : your viewpoint is inside the head of a mediaeval thief and while you use a blackjack to knock people out if you need to, many players try to "ghost" entire maps which is very hard, involving lots of patience. It's really satisfying to play - often frustrating as .. too - but there's always more than one way to skin the proverbial cat.

I love it and often replay missions just for the hell of it.

Like all the best music and movies, some games are simply too good to experience but once ..

My Grandad was 22 years old when the first powered flight was made by the Wright brothers. There's a lot happened in a relatively short period of time.

I know we all like to think we've lived through changes and the best of times, but you really have done just, John.

Keep on trucking

When I was growing up in Liverpool during the war, no one had:

Television
Telephone
Car
Fridge
Washing machine
Central heating
Double glazing
Fitted carpets (we did have fitted lino)

We used to read about these things in the magazines, forecasting 'the future'. :D :D

(shuffles off to bed humming 'things a'int what they used to be')
