Re: Scones
Its cone with an s in front, the same as tone, bone, lone etc, or is it just a southern thing.
Re: Scones
it's con with an S in front of it. I can only allow a Scot to call it a scone, just doesn't seem right otherwise.LAsouthcoast wrote:Its cone with an s in front, the same as tone, bone, lone etc, or is it just a southern thing.

On the regional food name theme, anyone like a "pastie supper" ? Not a meat and potato shortcrust type thingy at bed time, the REAL pastie supper !

Re: Scones
There's no rule set by how it's spelled, it could be scon to rhyme with gone, scone to rhyme with tone, or scun to rhyme with done or scwon with one. Hope this helpsDavycc wrote:it's con with an S in front of it. Re: Scones
In Leeds it was always a class thing in my experience. Skones in 'snap' (bait in the NE I believe), Scons in picnic hampers.
When I was young I said to my mum, 'are the hills in the distance America?'

S-Cone for me but her indoors is S-Con.
Barff is somewhere we've been this morning on a walk.
Correct spelling it's a local wooded hill called Brayton Barff. I
