Room 101

Post by NottinghamWhite »

A thread to discuss all those little minor irritants in every day life. We had a similar thread on the old forum and it was popular. Thought about this as was having a pint, well actually in my case a Sauvignon Blanc :D last night and my mate said what used to really wind him up when he smoked was people who put dead matches back into the box, may seem nothing to you but to him it used it infuriated the hell out of him.

I'll start those little cases that people drag along totally oblivious to others around them and I find myself dodging them all the time. Now kids have them shaped as animals and trust me they are an accident waiting to happen. I know it sounds petty but am certain a life will be lost one day after some poor unsuspecting devils falls over one.

So what would you put in Room 101, this should be fun :D

Specialised forum topics with particular seemingly significant names the meaning of which the topic starter has not explained completely, or at all (for the non-locals :D). Hate them! :D :D :D

Seriously though, Room 101? I fail to see the connection. :)

Room 101 is from George Orwells 1984 here is a quote.
“ You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world. ”

I thought Room 101 had entered enough into public rhetoric you wouldn't need to have read 1984, there's the tv programme for a start which is pretty mainstream.

Oh, blimey, to say I only read that a couple of years ago, it's clearly not stuck in my memory!

Carry on! :D

Genuinely hadn't entered my radar at all, I've had to google the programme to find out about it. I'm more of a CBeebies consumer myself. :D

Another thread going off track hope TJ doesn't see this or if he does I hope there's enough cash in the pot to pay for his medication :D

Could we put Nottingham City Council in Room 101?
Might have to take an interest in the Premier League now....

To be honest, it doesn't feature that heavily in the book, it only crops up at the end when the book gets a little surreal anyway (at least, such is my memory of it). Most (including me) associate the term more now with the tv programme's concept of it (a place to banish irritations) than the place of pure evil/fear described in the book. As is also the case with big brother these days.
