First names under threat

Nowadays of course, most mothers give their children names such as Hashtag, Nokia or Gandalf. Perhaps exagerated, but here are in fact the top dozen British boys names in 2016

Oliver
Muhammad
Noah
Harry
Jack
Charlie
Jacob
George
Ethan
Henry
Oscar

It seems the old names, good solid BRITISH names, are in danger of becoming extinct. Such as 'Clive' ... also Sharon and Tracy and even Wayne - you couldn't move for Waynes and Traceys at one time. I suppose these names will come back into fashion again soon... or not?

Here's the list of highly endangered names:-

Angela
Bertram
Beverley
Cecil
Carol
Clarence
Clive
Cyril
Debra
Diane
Donna
Dean
Doris
Dennis
Derek
Duncan
Elaine
Ernest
Geoffrey
Horace
Joanne
Leonard
Maureen
Malcolm
Nigel
Neville
Paula
Roy
Sally
Sandra
Sharon
Sheila
Tracey
Wendy
Yvonne
Wayne

Any other names you feel are 'threatened' or perhaps to the contrary where you're surprised by their upsurge in recent years?

I would say that almost any of those top dozen names, for both sexes, would have been found walking the streets of Britain 100+ years ago. In fact most would have been more prevalent 100 years ago than they were 20 years ago.

Yeah, it's all cyclical, isn't it ?
I remember reading that there were only 9 boys born as registered with the name "Gary" about a year ago ..

Bet there'll be a lot more in the Leeds area in the next few years, though they might spell it slightly differently of course :D
