Lads, I've got an urgent translation to make and I'm stuck with this: how do you call a compartment of a truck/minivan that you build up to you requirements, the one that you add to the chassis?

Thanks for a quick response! I meant the one at the back Like you're a dairy supplier, you need one refrigirated, with shelves, etc. But how do you call it in general? In Polish, loosely, it's "fitting compartment". But I'm sure it's got a different, proper English name.

Chill compartment or chiller compartment, I would say.
Thing is, most vans come like that rather than being retro-fitted, if that's what you're talking about.

Make up some stupid person 'n' bull story and throw in the "by the way, what do you call that bit on the back anyway ?" line with a chuckle and see what they say

No problem, I was no help - TBF to me you mentioned 'compartment' yourself so I avoided it. A storage compartment or even 'unit' would be clear enough, I think.

I never had much to do with commercial vehicles but am aware that there was a market for 'chassis/cabs'. This was usually the cab and chassis for a Transit type van where the buyer fitted his own specialist unit on the back. Not sure that there was ever a generic name covering what was fitted?
