Not sure of the first single, but could have been Rat Trap by The Boomtown Rats
First album was Queen's Live Killers

Still have all my vinyl albums even though I've probably bought most of them on CD as well

First single bought was Schools Out by Alice Cooper, cost me 25p.
First album bought with my own pocket money as my parents used to buy me an album of my choice for Christmas along with one of those Top of the Pops compilation lp's, was Cheap Trick at Budokan £3.49 I still have the price sticker on it.
First CD was Eric Clapton Backtracking, bought from a specialist CD shop in Worcester as CD's were not available in mainstream record shops when I purchase my CD player.
First Cassette was Upstairs at Eric's by Yazoo.
Writing this has made me feel quite old but slightly nostalgic.

First album I was given was one of those Top of the Pops ones. Slightly risqué cover pictures, slightly dodgy cover versions. Although a certain Mr Reg Dwight sang and played on them.

I used to collect tapes as I could stack them alphabetically in neat lines on my bedroom wall shelves my dad let me put up. (reasonably straight I might add) :D

Anyway the first album's of note I remember buying was Genesis Invisible Touch. Pet Shop Boys (steady) Introspective. And a bit later Violator by Depeche Mode.

Played them all to Kingdom Come.

This takes me back! I was seven years old and lived at home with my Mum and Dad and my one sister who was ten years older than me. Mum and Dad had started dancing lessons and, to help them practice at home, Mum bought a Dansette record player - the blue and white one that was all the rage. She also bought one record with dance tracks and that was all we had for a few months! Then, the Beetles brought out the single Can't Buy Me Love and I pleaded with my sister to buy it for me which she did. Being the only record we had that was any interest to me, I played it over and over again and I still know every word of the A side and the B side (You Can't Do That) off by heart! 1964, Parlophone.

One of those, you mean ??

We had something similar then my stepdad bought us (ie me) a much newer Hacker model with a valve amp and Garrard deck inside. Proper quality and really good sound. They sell for a couple of hundred quid these days :wtf:

Like everyone else, we had only a handful of records to begin with, including The Beatles debut LP - an original 1963 copy - that was so scratched and jumpy for years I had completely different - abridged - versions of the songs in my head. It was only when I replaced the disc with a brand new stereo version when I worked at Our Price that I heard them all as they were meant to be heard .. I couldn't believe the difference !

As for singles, we had a cracking double-A with Sinatra and Dino on one side singing Me And My Shadow, while the other was Dino with Sammy on the even better Sam's Song - still one of my favourite records to this day :

During and after the war, we had a gramophone with a 'wind-up' handle. No electricity required. Can't remember any of the records my parents had.
I once played against Don Revie.
