Sports Personality

Post by NottinghamWhite »

Away from football who are your hero's ? Me I'm lucky enough to have seen some of the all time sports greats like...

Lester Piggot - Jockey
Garfield Sobers - Cricket
Stirling Moss - Grand Prix
Usian Bolt - Athletics
Tiger Woods - Golf
Mark Spitz - Swimming

Just a few sports I actually watch am sure there are others to add :D

My all time hero is Mohammed Ali, love the guy and breaks my heart why I see him these days. Has there ever been a bigger personality in sport ?

Sadly don't get to see many personalities over here but did meet Ian Wright and John Motson at the same time a couple of years ago at work, flying back after the Norn Iron v England game. Ian Wright was a true gentleman, really nice fella nothing was too much trouble even helping a wheelchair PAX (no press or cameras around to play too) Motty.... total arseh**e

Not really hero's but more sports people i've admired for various reasons

Cricket -
Ian Botham
Alan Border (actually met these 2 in Newcastle NSW in 1987 as Botham was playing for Queensland at the time, both were really nice to me and my family wish i could find their autographs but have some photos)

Rugby League -
Roy Powell - played 2nd Row for Great Britain and came to my 18th birthday party, sadly here no more after collapsing at a training session.
Garry Schofield - my favourite player back in the 80's
Steve Menzies - played for Manly and the Catalan Dragons until he was 40!!!!! impressive

Basketball -
Larry Bird - played for Boston, enough said

Darts
Phil Taylor - keeps on going and is still the best in the world

sure there are more i could come up with but thats a beginning.
Owners come and go but Leeds United will be there forever, for the fans - keep Marching on Together.

Stirling Moss played for my Rugby Club, he's on a couple of the team photo's in the club house. I spent an hour or so in the company of Henry Cooper, a real nice guy and a gentleman. Also met Bobby Moore another true gentleman. Played golf with Gordon Banks but I think my favourite non-football personality is Cricketer David (Bumble) Lloyd.
I once played against Don Revie.
