I've refrained from saying this till now but someone once said parts of Spain are like a third world country.
Obviously Catalunia isn't, but this kind of behaviour, coupled with the monkey noises against English black players a very short while ago (Ashley Cole especially as he was playing closest to the crowd) really speaks volumes.

It just makes me sad ..

I hope they break away from Spain and gain their independence. It said that 42% turned out to vote for it and it was 90% in favor of independence.

Oh Dear. The Spanish government looks like it will invoke article 155 and suspend Catalonia's political Autonomy, which will result in direct rule coming from Madrid.
Can you imagine the Scots if Westminster ruled against them having a Independence vote. They would be Independent by now. I appreciate the Catalonia leader has prodded the Spanish government with a stick by declaring a illegal vote, but refusing to enter into dialog and allow a legitimate vote is going to cause chaos. I think the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels are going to have plenty of mediation work to do. (what do you mean there not interested)

Although Madrid can do away with the regional government and boss directly from Madrid I think yhey'll be light-handed and only trigger article 155 in part. They'd do that probably to call new regional government elections where the independents hold a slim majority. And (maybe) throw a few more 'rebels' (as seen from madrid anyway) in prison for supposedly disloyalty to the Spanish constitution. But estimates now say that after recent events of the police etc. the independent vote is likely to go up, so that holding new 'official' elections would not resolve anything - to the contrary it might make the independence vote rather more politically stronger. That's if the independents get a stronger majority next time (supposing there'd be a next time and not a half-civil war breaking out). Tough for Mardid cos they're not dealing with terrorists like they were with the Basque ETA but a really pacific lot of people with a genuine will for their future...

I think the Spanish government are between a rock and a hard place with this situation. I really can't envisage a suitable outcome other than allowing a legitimate vote, although that's never going to happen as it could possible mean the end of Spain as we know it.
