Passed away yesterday for Leeds fans he'll be best known for his Clarke one nil. Great as host of Question of Sport.

Re: David Coleman
Brilliant voice and seemed to be a very pleasant person too. He could make slow-motion chess sound dramatic, I loved the sound of his commentary, there are only a very few commentators I like listening to, and he was definitely one of them.
Re: David Coleman
One of the all-time great sports commentators/presenters

If he's true to form he'll probably say "hello Peter, so these are the Barley Gates then"
Great commentator, always remembered for his "Colemanballs" but really knew his stuff.

RIP to a great commentator and character, thanks for some great commentaries in a variety of sports including football!
Below, if you go to about 1.40 in, you'll get 'that comment' which is iconic to all LUFC fans, especially those of my era!

Re: David Coleman
Very sad indeed, RIP
Always enjoyed him on the Question of Sport and for some of his famous sayings and to remember him here's some of them -
That's the fastest time ever run - but it's not as fast as the world record
And there goes Juantorena down the back straight, opening his legs and showing his class
"Forest have now lost six matches without winning." (just for NottinghamWhite)
And the line-up for the final of the women's 400 metres hurdles includes three Russians, two East Germans, a Pole, a Swede, and a Frenchman."
If that had gone in, it would have been a goal."

Re: David Coleman
Was it Coleman when commentating on snooker that said and for those of you watching in black and white the yellow is behind the blue
Winner of the Europa League
Re: David Coleman
Sounds like a Colemanballs but it wasn't him. Can't remember who it was but will post it if I remember. This happened in the early days of TV when there was only black and white. They tried showing snooker in b & w but it didn't work.NottinghamWhite wrote:Was it Coleman when commentating on snooker that said and for those of you watching in black and white the yellow is behind the blue
David Coleman was a legend in sports reporting but he wasn't my favourite, maybe because he covered too many sports. For this reason, I think he came second to the 'specialists' like Bill McClaren - Rugby, John Arlott - Cricket, Dan Maskel - Tennis, Still, as I say, he was a legend in his own right and will be sorely missed. RIP.l
I once played against Don Revie.
Re: David Coleman
What a shame, one of the iconic voices.
Was he the guy who used to say 'quite remarkable' ...?
