So I finally figured out how to post you tube videos.
What I had to say about this song is the 2nd paragraph in my post back 3 or 4 spots.
Here's The Nice version, all instrumental, making it sound like the opposite of the goody/great times in the original lyrics.
Great Covers of Great Songs
Re: Great Covers of Great Songs
One more for the night.
I also wrote about this song earlier.
You should listen to this 3 times.
1st try block out the instruments. Listen to Pickett at his magnificent best.
2nd try block out everything except lead guitar. listen to what Eric Clapton calls one of the best guitar solos of all time.Duane Allman making it timeless.
3rd listen to everything, lay back, chill.
Legends never die. RIP Wilson and Duane.

Re: Great Covers of Great Songs
I just heard the original of this song, 'Do you want to dance'. Sung by Bobby Freeman, got to #5 in US charts in 1958.
Cliff and the Shadows covered this in 1962, got to #2 in UK charts. This version is the one most people are familiar with.
This later video by Cliff is better than the 1962 one.
Listening to this old stuff, I always take into consideration that we have had over 60 years of evolution to bring us to present day, and I don't think comparisons are fair.
