I think he had heart surgery. A bit of an extreme solution to avoid making a speech though.
Not a good idea to get on a long-haul plane flight immediately after heart surgery. Doubt any airline would accept him with that condition, and also very difficult to get travel insurance....
Might have to take an interest in the Premier League now....

No interest what so ever, was watching Sydney Swans vs Fremantle in the Aussie Rules Football.
