Bucket lists

Back in 1968 I went to work as a commis waiter at the Midland Hotel in Manchester. 50 years on I'm returning today as a guest. Have treated us to a junior suite as a special treat. I've never entered the hotel through the front door so that in itself will be an experience. A couple of years back on going to the railway museum in York I spent over an hour looking at all the cutlery, crockery & glassware that was on display as The Midland was an old British Transport Hotel. Since then a overnight stay has been top of my bucket list.

What's on yours ?

I've been lucky that I managed to do most of my travelling in the early 2000's.

The one thing I always wanted is not so much a trip or single experience... I'd love to be in a position (financially, workwise and kids) where I could buy my season ticket to ER and travel over every weekend, even if only for one season.
Almost did it in my early 20's, but moved to the west of Ireland, so the trip by bus and ferry would have been too big (cheap flights were not an option in those days).

As an aside, I knew of a Celtic supporters club in my hometown Kilkenny, where every weekend 50 supporters went by bus to Belfast (4+ hours), the slow cheap ferry to Stranraer (3+ hours), bus to Parkhead (3+ hours). They'd arrive about an hour before kick off and return immediately after the match!

Top of my bucket list is to get to the GP surgery when the car park is empty, the reception area is empty and my appointment is on-time.

PS The receptionist greets me by name now!

Travel has always been high on my list and the last 15 years I've been fortunate to do quite a bit seeing lots of places I'd always fancied seeing. One thing for sure is I'll keep doing it for as long as I can but will never get to them all.

To be honest football is a bit down my list of priorities these days but I still manage to get to ER a few times per season (usually evening matches).
In the distant past I did many years if home and away games until other things took over. Other than seeing Leeds win the European Cup my football bucket list is empty.

Me and Mrs SW like a challenge and couple of years ago we purchased some cards that had walks (between 4 and 10 miles) one pack of 30 in the Dales the other for West Yorkshire. They are good as fit in your pocket with Map on one side and directions on the other.
Our goal is to complete all 60 walks and we've currently done over 40 of them.

I was around 21 when I purchased my first house, around 6 months later, I got a statement saying the monthly payment of £323 consisted of £282 interest with just £40 paying the mortgage off. I queried this with my dad saying they had for it the wrong way round, he said no son, that’s the way it is.

At that point, I vowed to pay my mortgage off at 40 years old. I did it at 38.

To own your own home at 38, was my bucket list in reverse.

BB, so you lived in your first house for at least 17 years? In the 17 years after I bought my first house, I moved 5 times (4 being work related) which meant an increase in mortgage each time. My final move, which involved the biggest mortgage of all, was when I was 46, thought I did well to pay it off at age 60.
Sorry to raid the thread - back on topic.

Of all the magnificent places in the world I have been to, one small thing has remained on my list for years...Southend Pier!!! Went there to complete my 92 two years ago and I trogged along to do the Pier and it was shut! Going again next weekend for the Leeds game so hope to clear that one off then!
