Travel advice please - Las Vegas next April
Hi all, anyone been in recent times? We're going for a week next year, just wondering if any good advice for quality bargains etc - we're probably flying from Manc as we're Leeds based.
We don't gamble, which is nice
thanks

I was there twenty years ago and enjoyed it but three nights was enough for me.
I don't gamble much either - the odd game of cards while I was there (blackjack) but nothing more than that.
The free drinks are nice though - you just need to sit at the cheapest one-arm bandit to qualify
Everything's open 24/7 - no locks on the doors - and it's party central but now that I'm older and don't drink I'd probably hate it !
We stopped off in San Francisco before changing to fly to Vegas and from there drove across America all the way to Nashville.
If you get the chance, get down to the Hoover Dam and obviously the Grand Canyon - both are well worth the trip.
Oh, and if you fly in to Vegas at night, make sure you look out the window as you approach - it's a bonkers site, all that neon in the middle of the desert

Cheers Riggs. GC and the Hoover Dam are top of our list, though I've been to the Canyon before, many years agorigger wrote:I was there twenty years ago and enjoyed it but three nights was enough for me.

I'm half expecting not to like it too - I went around 20 years ago too with mates and stayed at Circus Circus thinking it'd be a good place to stay. It wasn't that bad but we want to be closer to the Strip this time.

We went old school and stayed at Stardust, just like in the movie "Swingers".
We had lunch in the same restaurant there, trying to replicate the scene in the film

Can't help sorry, never been. Went to Blackpool once, in 1953. Just a day trip fortunately.
I once played against Don Revie.

Re: Travel advice please - Las Vegas next April
We flew in and spent a day there but it absolutely poured with rain all day long and the place was flooded - signs and bins floating down the roads and the water washing in through the doors of the casinos! We then drove up to the Grand Canyon... but boy that is further than it looks, 275 miles from memory and we did that in the pouring rain too in a little hire car. The huge tanker trucks were hammering past us without a care in the world! We also then drove back and got a flight to San Francisco . We stopped at the Hoover Dam which as RIgger says is well worth a stop off (albeit when we stopped there it was so hot all we could do was dash from shade to shade!). So, no useful advice at all really except be prepared for all weathers! Our trip was about 5 or 6 years ago.
