Some of the supermarkets send an e-mail on the morning of the delivery, telling you what is not coming and/or what has been substituted for an alternative. Alternatively, the driver tells you when he arrives. Either way, you just accept it or not, and obviously they return your money. Occasionally, it works out quite well if you order something and they’ve only got it in a larger size, as you get the larger one for the price of the smaller

It’s very rare when something arrives damaged, but if it does, and the driver has already left, you just drop them an e-mail and they refund your money.
I know you won’t like this mate, but I honestly can’t understand why folk still go in supermarkets for the reasons I mentioned previously, although I appreciate for some the company and getting out of the house may be a big thing.
