SPOTY 2019
A shortlist of six contenders has been announced for the 2019 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award this Sunday 7pm.
The nominees are:
1. Dina Asher-Smith
2. Katarina Johnson-Thompson
3. Ben Stokes
4. Lewis Hamilton
5. Raheem Sterling
6. Alun Wyn Jones.
Here’s my top 3:
3) Dina Asher-Smith: First British woman to win a major Championship sprint title in the 200m and also won a Silver Medal in the 100m & 100m Relay.
2) Katarina Johnson-Thompson: She broke Jessica Ennis-Hill's British record in the Heptathlon. A fantastic achievement over 7 events that’s why she just pips Asher Smith into 2nd.
1) Ben Stokes: It’s hard to remember a time when Sport had me on the edge of my seat like watching Stokes in the summer. He Scored 84 in the World Cup Final and then was integral in that dramatic Super Over to lift England’s first World Cup. And then in the 3rd Test at Headingley he scored that magnificent 135 last wicket stand to see England home when it looked nigh-on impossible.
Kudos to the other 3 competitors. The only one i can’t comment on is Alun Jones as I’m not a Rugby fan.
Will anyone else be voting?
