The Top 100 UK Number Ones countdown ..

Post by Deleted User 728 »

This has been going on for the last couple of weeks in The Guardian and I've found it extremely interesting.

Really don't agree with some of the placings, but for the most part the choices are fair enough : not just great music, but stuff that hit the zeitgeist, stuff that changed what came afterwards and stuff that was just "WOW !" when it first aired.

Tomorrow will see the final entry in this all-time hit parade ..

When I was about 16 years old 1952/53, I worked in the centre of Leeds. Three or four of us used to walk around the centre during lunch-time. A favourite place to go was Lewis's on the Headrow, and this included a visit to the record department where the 'top ten' were updated daily. I remember one record being top for 8 weeks, which was quite a long time. Didn't expect it to be in the Guardian top 100 though. It was: 'How much is that doggy in the window'.
I once played against Don Revie.
