Just last night I was blown away watching video of Derek Trucks playing at Eric Clapton's annual Chicage blues festival.
Yep, she's from Boston originally.

Did I mention I have her signature tattooed on my left forearm ?
I've sold an awful lot of records to customers who've asked "Who's this ?" while playing something by her in-store.

No I've not will look her up thanks
Saw her at BB Kings in Memphis and fell in love.
She's got a unique voice and plays scratchy lead on her own albums, but got married to blues virtuoso Derek Trucks a few years ago and their group, The Tedeschi Trucks Band - or TTB for short - has a really big following in America, especially on the live circuit.
It's not just blues, but more Americana with elements of rock, folk, country, jazz and the full band features players from every kind of background. It's a bit like when Lyle Lovett goes on tour with his "Large Band" and plays jazzy country with touches of gospel.
Forget classifications, they're all consumate musicians and sound great whatever they play.

I'd recommend Just Won't Burn as the starting point for Tedeschi's solo stuff. Play that and take it from there ..
Yes been looking at a few you tube videos.

When I visited Memphis in 2005 I saw a lady called Marcia Ball with her band at BB Kings and have since acquired a few CD's of hers. Actually saw her again in Houston 3 or 4 years later.
Hence that is what I have on this morning, great memories of great trips.

Saw some amazing acts in Memphis, Beale St just bleeds music one of those places that just needs visiting at least once. Actually visited again 6 years back when I did the Blues Highway (route 61), Chicago to New Orleans via St Louis & Memphis among others.
Mrs SW has not been yet, so you never know a 3rd visit in the future isn't impossible :D

Marcia Ball has played a few times at my local music venue, the 'Narrows center for the Arts', here in Fall River.
The 'Narrows' is a diamond in a bit of a cultural wasteland around here.
Concert room, art gallery and workshops. Usually a decent artist on Sat nights.very adult crowd.
Artists are usually in the blues/folk/Americana catagory
In normal times they have an free annual festival, a one day event, 2 stages, one indoor one in a nearby park, usually around a dozen bands/artists.

Thorbjorn Risager and The Black Tornado - Come On In.

You've heard smoky, steamy, club blues from Chicago ........ well, here's the same from Denmark, and it's quite brilliant.

It's there on Tidal, for those of us who stream. and is well worth a listen.

Love Chicago Blues scene (its a City you can't go wrong with either Blues or Jazz) so its a style I will like.

I worked in record shops for twenty-odd years and have DJed pn and off for about thirty.
For the last twenty years I wrote a bi-monthly album and live review column for a local magazine/freepaper. Unfortunately, it folded during the first lockdown and has switched to become an internet radio station. I'm hoping we'll start up again once venues open up again but that could well be a year or two given how long it's gonna take to get back to normal.
I'm still on the mailing list of a few record labels though and get sent stuff all the time, mainly digital but sometimes actual records and CDs, which is fantastic.

My main genres are soul, funk, latin, blues, jazz and hip-hop, but I also love a bit of prog (mostly Yes and Tull TBH), deep house, intelligent drum n' bass, a bit of classical (esp. driving because all mainstream music stations on FM are awful) and find myself listening to more and more Americana/country.

I used to sing in a rock covers band but I don't really enjoy that much mainstream rock and any indie after the mid-90s just sounds like a pastiche of everything that went before it.

Some random artists I'd recommend :
