Christmas tree

Post by NottinghamWhite »

When do you put up your decorations & tree at Christmas ? I’ve seen on my daily walk a couple of houses fully decked out already

Traditionally as I grew up it was anytime after 4th December.
That date was my mothers birthday and she would not have them up until after the date, I still stick with the family tradition.

Saying that we may not bother this year but that is unusual, if all goes to plan we are hoping to be away dependant on Covid restrictions.

Called in Wilko's to purchase some batteries yesterday and they were playing Xmas songs

Going to my daughters on Monday night to put the tree up (it's now a Christmas tradition for us both) Only thing is IT'S WAY TOO EARLY :D

Sometime in the first week of December is time enough for me.

One of our neighbours have how stencilled snow men and Father Christmas on their windows. It’s the middle of November for goodness sake.

A few people in our village have got their Christmas trees up, all decorated etc.

As mentioned, I really enjoy Christmas but even I think it’s too early.

Had to take our decorations out of the cupboard to make room for the Easter eggs

Daughter calls me Grinch but she's 30 going on 12 when it comes to Christmas. I actually love Christmas but when it used to be 2 or 3 weeks over the festive season. Christmas films starting in December not October, Trees and decorations going up in December. It was all "condensed" into a couple of weeks, not watered down over months.

My earliest recollections of Christmas was the Old Mother Riley movie every Christmas Day morning. Arthur Lucan who played OMR was married to co-star Kitty O’Shea. I watched a biopic on them & she definitely wore the trousers. Seen a few of these biopics including Hattie Jacques who came over as a nymphomaniac, Hughie Green who was a serial cheater & Tony Hancock was came over as a very sad man.
