I have returned.

Suppose you want to remember a list of things. For example, a shopping list or a points to make in a speech. And suppose you want to remember the fifth item on your list. If you just try and think “What was the fifth item? ” then it would be quite difficult because the number 5 doesn't mean much on its own. But to a Leeds fan of my age the number five would normally bring Big Jack to mind. It is really useful if you can automatically see a person when you think of a number. Now if I want to remember the fifth item on a list then all I have to do is associate it with Jack Charlton. If it was a shopping list and the fifth item was bread then I would imagine Jack Charlton heading a loaf of bread into a net. That is basic mnemonics.

Some people have taken it further and they can remember whole packs of cards. I can't remember a pack yet, but I'm a bit thick and I haven't been trying for very long. I will get there soon. My method is to associate each suit in a deck with a team. For me Leeds are Spades. One Leeds team means more to me than all the others and I can remember instantly the numbers on the back of all these players. That gives me the cards from Ace to Jack (for me Jack = 11). I need two extra cards. I always use the manager as the King and I use one other important person at the club as the Queen.

Here are two videos explaining this. The method I use is similar to the methods used in the two explanations. However, it is not exactly the same.

Thank god you posted John I thought I was tripping out.

BUT ! there is always

You see Sir, when I look at the "ACE", it reminds me that
there is but one God;

And the "DEUCE" reminds me that the Bible is divided into
two parts; The Old and the New Testaments

And when I see the "THREE", I think of the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Ghost

And when I see the "FOUR", I think of the four Evangelists
who preached the Gospel. There was Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

And when I see the "FIVE", it reminds me of the five wise
virgins who trimmed their lamps. There were ten of them, five
were wise and were saved. Five were foolish and were shut out

And when I see the "SIX", it reminds me that in six days,
God made this great heaven and earth;

When I see the "SEVEN", it reminds me that on the seventh day,
God rested from His great work;

And when I see the "EIGHT", I think of the eight righteous
persons God saved when He destroyed this earth. There was
Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives

And when I see the "NINE", I think of the lepers our Saviour
cleansed. And nine out of the ten didn't even thank Him

When I see the "TEN", I think of the Ten Commandments God
handed down to Moses on a table of stone

When I see the "KING", it reminds me that there is but one
King of Heaven, God Almighty

And when I see the "QUEEN" I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary
who is Queen of Heaven

And the "JACK" or "KNAVE" is the Devil

When I count the number of spots on a deck of cards
I find 365, the number of days in a year
There;s 52 cards, the number of weeks in a year
There's 4 suits, the number of weeks in a month
There's 12 picture cards, the number of months in a year
There's 13 tricks, the number of weeks in a quarter
So you see, Sir, my pack of cards serves me as a Bible
Almanac and Prayer Book.

And friends this is a true story because I knew that soldier

God my dad has a lot to answer for lol

Or
From a jack to a king of loneliness to a wedding ring
I've played a ace and I won the queen
I walked away with your heart

From a jack to a king
With no regrets I stacked, I stacked the cards, I stacked the cards last night
And lady luck played her hand just right
You made me king of your heart

We would have won the league once if big Jack had headed the ball instead of a loaf of bread. :D

This is the answer :

Ace - A bill sticker (Bill Brown)
2 - A baker (Peter Baker)
3 - A hoover (Ron Henry)
4 - A flower (Danny Blanchflower)
5 - A Norman Knight (Maurice Norman)
6 - A man drinking alcohol (too hard) (Dave Mackay)
7 - A medic (too hard) ( Terry Medwin)
8 - Someone whitewashing a wall (John White)
9 -A blacksmith (Bobby Smith)
10 - A laughing man (Jimmy Greaves)
J - A cliff (Cliff Jones)
Q - A man rowing (too hard) (Arthur Rowe)
K - A man counting change (hard) (Bill Nicholson)

I use a team for each suit. That Spurs team was the first team I supported. I've always known that team off by heart.

I know this all seems a bit odd for some on here, but when you get older and your brain slows down all these little tricks help give people the impression you are not yet senile.
