Post by daib0 »

No more entries please, we are now logging everyone onto the big Sunderland automated computer programme. So what happens now? We’ve been asked a few times … so for regulars to recap once again, and for new readers to know what’s going on.

OK, we’ve waited till Saturday morning; in a couple of days (hopefully not much more) we go through all entries, bear in mind patience, it's literally hundreds of them (there always are mistakes such as having 2 Norwichs but no Stoke, having only 19 by forgetting a team etc so we have to get back to individual posters).

Then we make the forum average - every team placed by every contributor has a number position and we take the exact average. If, say, Swansea comes out average of 8.5 place and next West Ham 8.61 then we know we place the Hammers one position lower. We can't predict points gaps of course - if you think there will be a 15 gap between 6th and 7th we can't account for that! But all twenty teams come out in order ... and I will faithfully transfer your average list on this thread as soon as I can. Forums by entry coming up soon too so everyone knows how many on each forum have participated.

All forums will vary, that's the beauty - so we calculate the 'real' table with your vision of a your forum table and we calculate how far every team is out and thus give the points, probably from the second league match onwards or possibly the 3rd game if it takes us that long. A lot of astute guessing this year I can see. But the league positions will of course change all season so our forum table changes all season, and as stated in the initial post we award extra bonus points at the end of every month - and that really helps to sort out the top firing forums!

But it's all just a bit of fun, don't take it TOO seriously! Also we've had cases where a forum has been, well, almost dire one season but the next gone on to medal positions (e.g. Man Utd and Sunderland) !!

An IBM Supercomputer and the Sunderland Black Cat Chat forum admin man and myself have spent quite a few days cogitating on the entries made into the Competition. A couple of entries could not finally be accepted, or did not get back to clarify doubts, but we finally have had a massive 431 entries from 39 Forums from the 40-something invited. Unfortunately 2 of the forums didn't hit the minimum number of entrants and lost out in Round one and a handful didn’t even get one prediction back. But the big, big majority got into double figures and some even passed twenty which makes for a fantastic representation. So the number shown at the side of your forum name is the number of entrants for the forum to get this all important average – if you want to know exact selections for any others (local rivals, soft spots etc) just tell me and I’ll happily post them on here, or even all of them ...

9 LUFC Talk
Leeds United

• 1 Chelsea
• 2 Man City
• 3 Man Utd
• 4 Arsenal
• 5 Tottenham
• 6 Liverpool
• 7 Everton
• 8 Southampton
• 9 West Ham
• 10 Stoke
• 11 Swansea

• 13 Aston Villa
• 14 West Brom
• 15 Newcastle
• 16 Leicester City
• 17 Sunderland
• 18 Watford
• 19 Norwich City
• 20 Bournemouth

What would happen if ALL entrants were put TOGETHER? – well, here is the combined wisdom of those 431 people. According to all of us, this is how the League table will look after the last game has been played. Apologies if your team is not where you’d like to see it!

441 Combined say:

• 1 Chelsea
• 2 Arsenal
• 3 Man Utd
• 4 Man City
• 5 Liverpool
• 6 Tottenham
• 7 Southampton
• 8 Everton
• 9 Swansea
• 10 Stoke

• 13 Newcastle
• 14 West Brom
• 15 Aston Villa
• 16 Sunderland
• 17 Leicester City
• 18 Norwich City
• 19 Bournemouth
• 20 Watford

And …. here we are after the 1st Week's results! Hardly means anything yet of course …

UPDATE – after game 2

There won’t be an update every week, but as we are at the start there are going to be wild variations, so might be fun to look in. Having said that, the Posh boys have certainly started the new campaign fiercely! Leeds, Leicester and Norwich have also kicked off very nicely, don’t think any of these have been at/near the top in previous seasons, and the best of the new boys are Extreme Football Forum …
But it’s a long, long way to go, don’t get complacent anybody!

The ‘real’ League Table taken from the BBC

1 Man City
2 Leicester
3 Liverpool
4 Man Utd
5 Everton
6 Swansea
7 Crystal Palace

11 Arsenal
12 Watford
13 Stoke
14 Tottenham
15 Newcastle
16 Chelsea
17 Southampton
18 West Brom

Premier Game Middle of Sept 2015

Hi everyone, here is the update following our International break.

As you can see, the north-east are in a sorry state right now, but we all know things can change fast. And absolutely no-one predicted Chelsea dangling with relegation!!!

Here is that table: Played - GD - Points

1 Man City 5 11 15
2 Leicester 5 4 11
3 Man Utd 5 3 10
4 Arsenal 5 2 10
5 West Ham 5 5 9
6 Crystal Pal 5 2 9
7 Everton 5 3 8
8 Swansea 5 2 8
9 Norwich 5 -1 7
10 Liverpool 5 -3 7
11 Saints 5 0 6
12 Tottenham 5 0 6
13 Watford 5 -1 6
14 West Brom 5 -3 5
15 Aston Villa 5 -2 4
16 Bournem’th 5 -3 4
17 Chelsea 5 -5 4
18 Stoke 5 -4 2
19 Sunderland 5 -5 2
20 Newcastle 5 -5 2

Coming up then is our master table. I bet the Posh boys wish their team was as good as THEY are!! And unbelievable that LCFC Foxes talk are 3rd and below their actual team, bravo on both counts. Unusual to see my own forum - Royals Rendezvous - in the top half as we’re usually pretty naff at this particular game!

Well done to everyone!

Before the big forum table, a reminder of the first Bonus points of the season for 1st September (taken off your scores to get them even better) which were:
3 The Posh Forum Peterborough United
2 Tudor Talk Hemel Hempstead

Premier Game Update – roughly two-thirds way through September 2015

It is all very interesting this season. Good to see underdogs, even good underdogs, do well so personally I’ll say it’s nice to see West Ham and Leicester outbattling some of the big boys. But it’s still very early days yet of course …

Last Update: Sep 21st

Here is our table League table from the BBC site from which this update is based:

Team – Played – GD – Points

1 Man City 6 10 15
2 Man Utd 6 4 13
3 West Ham 6 6 12
4 Leicester 6 4 12
5 Arsenal 6 0 10
6 Everton 6 3 9
7 Swansea 6 2 9
8 Crystal Palace 6 1 9
9 Tottenham 6 1 9
10 Watford 6 0 9
11 Norwich 6 -1 8
12 West Brom 6 -2 8
13 Liverpool 6 -3 8
14 Bournemouth 6 -1 7
15 Chelsea 6 -3 7
16 Southampton 6 -1 6
17 Aston Villa 6 -3 4
18 Stoke 6 -4 3
19 Newcastle 6 -6 2
20 Sunderland 6 -7 2

So how does the real Premier league table affect our Positions game? Quite a lot!
Big news is that the Posh Forum have just slightly been displaced at the top of the Forum League – it’s now the Arsenal Fan Forum (amazing since it’s their first season with us!) calling the shots jointly with the Leicester Foxes Talk site. The Tudor Talk forum of Hemel Hempstead are always invited because they are without doubt one of the best predicting forums over the last few seasons, and there is no reason why a non-league forum can’t equally well know their stuff. Also delightful to see the Brum Joys and Sorrows group well up there on their first involvement with us as well. Then come a number of the usual suspects, including my own Royals forum that I can’t ever remember in top dozen in previous seasons.
Sunderland and Newcastle forums were both in the gloom just a month ago, but the Black Cats are pulling away from the bottom. The Toons may well do so shortly too, these tables are still very violatile. Anyway it’s all just a bit of fun, please don’t let it spoil your week!

So here goes:

Re: Inter-Forum PREMIER Positions Game 2015-16

Post by daib0 »

Another International break, so therefore a good time to make a general update on our Inter-Forum fun game!

Right here is the league table. Grim North Eastern Reading, but probably far more of a surprise for Chelsea fans. Palace and Foxes fans must be smiling though, and all three promoted sides last time seem to be sitting more or less comfortably … …

Last Update: Oct 8th
Key: Team – Played – GD - Points

1 Man City 8 12 18
2 Arsenal 8 6 16
3 Man Utd 8 4 16
4 Crystal Palace 8 4 15
5 Leicester 8 2 15
6 West Ham 8 6 14
7 Everton 8 4 13
8 Tottenham 8 4 13
9 Southampton 8 3 12
10 Liverpool 8 -2 12
11 Swansea 8 0 10
12 Watford 8 -1 10
13 Norwich 8 -2 9
14 Stoke 8 -2 9
15 Bournemouth 8 -2 8
16 Chelsea 8 -5 8
17 West Brom 8 -5 8
18 Aston Villa 8 -5 4
19 Sunderland 8 -10 3
20 Newcastle 8 -11 3

Based on this ‘table’ we make our Main Forums table. What’s happening in the fan world then?! The Foxes still flying and the Posh not far behind. Tudor Talk always seem to be competitors to be well respected, and LUFC Talk are accustomed to this game too. Participating for the first time, the Arsenal Fan Forum, Extreme Football Football and Joys and Sorrows are all making a notable start. The next group – Blackpool, Bournemouth, Fulham, Norwich and Cardiff City Forum - are all sitting in there nicely too. Anyone of those or those following on could easily make a spurt ahead.
Well done to all those just mentioned, but I’m sure things will change, they always do. The fact that if bonus points were allocated just a week later they would have gone to some other teams proves that! The two organizing forums – Reading & Sunderland – now once again down in lower half obscurity which is where they almost always are!!

Re: Inter-Forum PREMIER Positions Game 2015-16

Post by daib0 »

BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER 2015

Another couple of weeks have passed, and we now have the bonus points available corresponding to the best forums at the end of October – yet just one week later there has been further change around the positions!

Right here first is the ‘real’ league table. Dangerous times for Villa and Chelsea fans, methinks, but Leicester, Saints and Hammers fans well content I’d say. Spurs also going very nicely too – which of these teams will keep up the pace with the traditional big group then?

Last Update: Oct 8th
Key: Team – Played – GD - Points

• 1 Man City 11 17 25
• 2 Arsenal 11 13 25
• 3 Leicester 11 4 22
• 4 Man Utd 11 7 21
• 5 Tottenham 11 10 20
• 6 West Ham 11 7 20
• 7 Southampton 11 5 17
• 8 Liverpool 11 0 17
• 9 Everton 11 4 16
• 10 Crystal Palace 11 1 16
• 11 Watford 11 0 16
• 12 West Brom 11 -4 14
• 13 Swansea 11 -3 13
• 14 Stoke 11 -3 13
• 15 Chelsea 11 -6 11
• 16 Norwich 11 -8 9
• 17 Bournemouth 11 -12 8
• 18 Newcastle 11 -10 7
• 19 Sunderland 11 -12 6
• 20 Aston Villa 11 -10 4

Based on this ‘table’ we make our Main Forums table. Both Leicester and Peterborough forums finished almost neck and neck at the end of October, but due to the Foxes moving up the third spot in the league their fans supporting their team with a generous prediction means they have just edged forward in the Forum league … hope that makes sense. What struck me though was the advance of both the Cardiff and Doncaster forums, who are now big players in our game along with Watford and Leeds. As nearly always, my poor Royals Rendezvous is seen wanting, languishing at the bottom end.

However, if you’ve followed the game up to now then you’ll know that things can radically turn round … quite easily!

Re: Inter-Forum PREMIER Positions Game 2015-16

MIDDLE OF DECEMBER 2015

Hello again. What a table! Who would have guessed that Leicester would be sitting comfortably two points clear, or that Chelsea are more concerned about a relegation scrap than of European considerations. . Also must make a mention of Palace and the Hammers going very nicely too. Still misery for the North-east, not sure what’s happened there, I’m supposing it won’t last, but what do I know, I’m here just to report on the forum game.

The league table, as it stands right now. From this we make the placings in our game …

Team – Played – GD - Points
1 Leicester 15 11 32
2 Arsenal 15 14 30
3 Man City 15 14 29
4 Man Utd 15 10 29
5 Tottenham 15 13 26
6 Crystal Palace 15 5 23
7 West Ham 15 4 23
8 Liverpool 15 1 23
9 Everton 15 8 22
10 Watford 15 1 22
11 Stoke 15 -1 22
12 Southampton 15 3 21
13 West Brom 15 -5 19
14 Chelsea 15 -7 15
15 Swansea 15 -8 14
16 Norwich 15 -10 13
17 Bournemouth 15 -12 13
18 Newcastle 15 -14 13
19 Sunderland 15 -12 12
20 Aston Villa 15 -15 6

The Leader Board - we are going to have to do something about those foxes. Top points and top bonuses. The rest of us aren't safe anymore! Interesting how Hemel Hempstead do well every season, not sure what they know that I don’t! Then it gets very tight, and team forums can easily go upwards or downwards as the season progresses. So don’t get worried if you’re in positions of a relegation scrap!
