I know that this is just for fun, but I would be interested for an explanation regarding the context of this statement? Is this proportionate to income for instance? As we all know men are still paid more than women for work of equal value!

My take on it is like this :

Slightly more women than men in the UK population, but are there more women work hours than men work hours ? I doubt it.
I would imagine more men are in full-time work than men, so if you count up every hour that every man works and compare it to every hour that women works I would imagine men come out on top.
From there, it's not hard to see men paying more in tax in both absolute and percentage terms (as men will also definitely provide more high earners over the top tax threshold)

That is how I would figure it, so more income tax is paid by men proportionate to there being more male working hours. There are many permutations relating to to income tax and earnings. I wonder whether it would be men or women who dodge the most tax! - Proprotionate to earnings or work hours!
