Pilatus emblamatic of the city it is possible to reach the top of the mountain by funicular railway (steepest in the world, I believe)
Vierwaldstättersee (there is an anglicization of this but it contains the name of the location!) Lake Lucerne; the fish in it called egli - a type of trout - is considered a local delicacy
Kappelbrücke A medieval wooden bridge that spans the river just before it enters the lake; a beautiful construction decorated with small pictures
Cheese fondue It is originally Swiss and tradionally made from Gruyere and Emmenthal cheeses; loose your bread in the mixture and you have to buy everyone present a drink! The French have a version as well
National Transport Museum if you're into historical forms of transport a great way to pass an afternoon
Lucerne is one of my absolutely top favourite places to visit, the lake, the mountains, the old town make a lovely setting.
A few annotations above.....
