BB King's club is still the best night out in the world for me :)

I actually missed seeing BB actually play at his own Club by one week, was playing there the Saturday after i left. Actually saw Marcia Ball and her band the night i was there back in Sept 2005 who were very good.
Main memory was usually for Memphis it was raining and the roof was leaking everywhere, warm rain though :D .
Place over the road Blues City cafe also gets great acts on, saw a fantastic rockabilly trio called the Dempsey's there on that same trip.

Also saw a group called Hillbilly Casino there on my last trip (2014) who were also well worth seeing.

I think any night of the year in either Memphis or Nashville is always gonna be entertaining.

Heck, even a Tuesday lunchtime there'll be three or four bands playing live on Beale Street or Broadway :)

Hopefully I'll be heading out to Nashville next year for a friends birthday. You can't get away from music, apparently, with bands playing in bars from early morning. Can't wait. :D

Mate, it's an incredible place : Music City.

I last went nearly 20 years ago - twice, I might add - and it's non-stop. The Wild Horse Saloon is a massive club and a great place to end up. We happened to be there for the annual Battle Of The Bands final and met Travis Tritt in the bar. He had a pint with us and was a good laugh and we got everyone around us drinking Bailey's because one of us asked for it in an English accent and they couldn't get enough of it :)
( the accent, though the Bailey's was a close second).

After three days we were a bit countried out though and found a little rock bar further down the same hill. That made for a refreshing change :)

We also caught an NHL game - Predators v Blackhawks - which was pricey but well worth the experience. Good sport, ice hockey, and less boring than rounders or padded rugby in my opinion because there's fewer breaks.
That was at the immense Nashville Arena where, just three days after the place was covered in ice, we then saw the World Rodeo Championships.
Now that was mind-blowing. Watching a bucking bronco or a bull on TV is one thing : seeing that power and danger up close and for real is altogether different. The smells for one thing, but the noise, the passion of the crowd, the fact every single person in the place is wearing a cowboy hat - in fact they're all over the streets during the day and it's as natural as anyone wearing trainers or a t-shirt ..

Amazing, amazing town.
Enjoy ! :)

Another coincidence the one NHL game i attended was to see the Blackhawks although they were at home in Chicago and facing Vancouver Canucks, great night though. Was there for my 50th birthday with a couple of mates, cant believe its almost 10 years ago.

Was there in 2006 and what Rigger says is correct music everywhere in the city centre, some cracking nights out its a real friendly place. I got lucky as was staying at the "Best Western Music Row" about a 20 min or so walk to the centre. A few bars over the road including a good Irish Pub and a Sports Bar where the put the Leeds v Preston play off semi on for me (the Americans even got interested when Eddie Lewis scored).
The big bonus was my hotel was near some music studios and a few of the local country stars practised in the bar from about midnight to about 6am, spent a good few nights with them listening to them take it in turns to do a song. Didn't make breakfast on too many occasions.

One tip, avoid the cat fish which the serve as Fish & Chips, was as sick as a dog afterwards.

Thanks, messrs R and SW. It's actually part of a 3-location birthday - New York, Nashville and ...er... Weston-Super-Mare (which is where he lives). I've just got to save up the money to make all 3. ;)

Only ever been to the States on business. Last time, I was in Houston, involved in a deal with a Japanese company who were building a pipe-line in Algeria. The Japanese guys had to refer all decisions back to their head office in Japan, so because of the time difference, meetings were held in the middle of the night. They had an open telephone line to Japan for the whole period of the meeting. Didn't get to see much of Houston! Got the deal though!
If you think you will succeed, or think you will fail, you will usually be right.

It'll be late September/October next year. We went there last year for the first time and were blown away by the place. We were with our mate then too and he was acting as our guide - which was great, but it was full on as he wanted to show us Everything in 5 days. Next time we'll take it a bit easier. For example my better half wants time to browse and shop rather than being marched in to Macy's and being told "...and this is Macy's. Right! Next stop Time Square. Follow me!". He meant well, bless him. :D

Enjoy your trip.
