1. I see already I have some challengers for defensive midfielder, so my credentials are
-very rarely get beaten in the tackle
-can pick a pass left or right foot
-decent in the air due to height
-would contribute some goals
But would probably end up as right back

2. Not sure I'd be compatible with the purile antics that accompany many team sports. So squash and badminton probably my best bet.

3. A test match in Cape Town, RSA v England. Failing that Australia v England in Perth.

4. Monaco v PSG in the Stade Louis II. I'd make the most of the all expenses paid

5. A bit daft but please bear with me. When I was in sixth form a group of four of us came to Nottingham for a sort of induction into mining engineering at the university. Apart from going down a mine, one of the events was a 5-a-side competition which we won with the aid of a ringer called Sefton who scored the winning penalty in the final shoot out. I scored the two goals to get us to a 2-2 draw against a team of postgraduates - so, much older - that included an ex-pro from WBA.

Apart from that my 35 yard goal in the top corner for Wargrave - johnh note! - in 1977 whilst playing left back.

35 yards goal, impressive that MW. I once scored a 35 yard OWN GOAL! Soaking wet, very muddy pitch. Long ball over my head (I was centre-half) I turned and chased the ball for some yards then saw that our right back was totally unmarked over on the right. I smacked the ball, cross field, as hard as I could but the ball skidded off the outside of my boot and our goalie never saw it. Went in the top corner like a rocket. Playing for Old Farnley Boys' Club in 1952.

When I played I was a Paul Madeley/Stuart Dallas player. I played in every position including a 20 min spell in goals. Played mostly as a wide midfielder, had no pace but could read the game and put a cross in with either foot.

2. If you were talented enough to be a Pro and make a good living at any sport what would it be ?

I would pick football but in the end it would be darts

3. You could go to watch any major sporting event in the World (other than football) all expenses paid what would it be ?

Aussie Rules Grand Final at the MCG

4. If you could attend any Club Football match all expenses paid which would you choose ?

Leeds of course but if I had to pick another club then the Dundee Derby to cheer on Dundee United

5. What do you consider your best sporting achievement ?

I was a better indoor soccer player and played in many Grand Finals, won a few as well!

1. If we had a Lufc Talk Football Team what position would you play ?

When i used to play football, the coach or manager in charge of the teams i played for usually played me in either an attacking midfield role or as a defensive midfielder I always preferred the defensive midfield role because I could read the game well. My manager always said i had a future in football as i had a great turn of speed and stamina. I took no prisoners either.

2. If you were talented enough to be a Pro and make a good living at any sport what would it be ?

I loved many kinds of sports when a kid, including Hurling which is my second favorite sport even if its an amateur sport in Ireland but I could have made it as a pro footballer or so i was told by coaches and managers as i was always captain material and had a good knowledge of the game. Pace to burn and a healthy level of good tackling or shooting skills. Busted my knee in a cycling accident (another sport i enjoyed a bit too much) and my football was never the same after that.

3. You could go to watch any major sporting event in the World (other than football) all expenses paid what would it be ?

All Ireland Final Cork verses Kilkenny every time. but I'd only go iff KK White was sitting next to me and he paid for all the drinks......

4. If you could attend any Club Football match all expenses paid which would you choose ?

Leeds against Barcelona, Champions League Final any year would do so long as i'm alive and kicking

5. What do you consider your best sporting achievement ?

My best sporting achievement was winning both the U14 league and cup with casement Celtic a local team way back in 1984 when i was at the height of my footballing skills. I played most games that season while scoring 20+ goals and being sent off 4 times. The manager picked me out as the player of the year. I also won the school cup and best player for that year. A year later i had my cycling accident and never played football again in the same way so my career was over before it really took off. I often think back on this and remember not really thinking too much about a career as i was just playing for fun most of the time. Life has a great way of selecting a path for you regardless of any disappointments you have and another way of humbling you at the same time. (If it's meant to be then it will 110% happen and if it's not then no amount of determination or perseverance will make it happen. (valuable lesson learned)

You were a Casement boy? I captained my local club to a 2-0 All Ireland Semi Final win over ye in 1989

A question for kk and Corky. Does having that part of your brain which controls fear and common sense hurt when it's removed prior to starting playing Hurling ?

It was never there to begin with Davy :D .
Certainly from a Kilkenny point of view (I'm sure Cork are the same), we're born to play the sport. To be honest, the adrenaline rush of playing the worlds fastest field sport numbs any pain.

Nice little 3 minute intro here for the uninitiated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1Vw66Zs0dQ

If my first love of Leeds United hadn't of taken hold before i found Hurling I would probably be still playing Hurling at 47 years of age. I can't explain it but I guess the way English people describe football as the beautiful game, Irish people are cultured around the sport of Hurling especially In Cork and Kilkenny the top two counties historically even if not at present. The buzz of hearing the clash of the ash and the speed and skill at which these guys play is amazing. I was hooked within seconds of seeing it as a kid on holidays in Ireland in the late seventies and with stories of the game from my relatives in England who grew up playing it. Even in Leeds Irish center there was a hurling team. not sure if it's still there now but it is catching on in the UK.

Davy i have never once feared playing hurling as KK rightfully said we don't feel fear of being hit by the Hurley at all or the sliothar either if it happens and it does you either get back up and start pucking again in the hope this time you hit the damn sliothar or you don't get back up and the amateur coaches will say here have a drink of this an you'll be fine. It's how Irish kids grew up being tough. A lesson learned harshly when i moved from England. You either grow up tough or you'll end up being beaten for being too soft. I grew up tougher after being a sortie in the UK. Differences in society i guess.

if only i had been playing in that 1989 game we would have had a right old tussle but i had given up by that stage both cycling and many other niggling injuries like tendinitis also took me away from the great game of football.

As for the pint per goal scenario  you're a wiley old fox with that one.... you know Cork are absolutely shocking at scoring goals and are more of a point specialist team which is actually against Cork's traditional play. Jimmy Barry Murphy was to blame for that and the whole Cork set up for points has seen the undoing of going for goals in games. Unlike yourselves and Brian Cody getting players to smash them in for fun along with Tipp and Galway and even the Dublin team Cork have fallen behind somewhat over the past ten years.

In truth though, i havent been following it too much over the past few years of being here in the Philippines, I do miss being in Pairc ui Choimbh though on a wet sodden day watching even junior or underage teams playing. Fascinating game and i miss it.
